Human Violence: Understanding it... Ending it

Ending human violence will require us to stop terrorizing our children, giving violent individuals support and safe spaces in which to feel their suppressed fear consciously, and changing institutions, such as the legal system, so that we no longer use fear to try to 'modify' behavior.

(TASMANIA, Aust.) - Boy in Kabul, Afghanistan makes fists toward camera Violence is the most pervasive and destructive human problem of them all. It has been present for as long as history records. We are mired in it, all over the world, every day of our lives.

It now threatens to obliterate us from the historical record within decades, if not sooner.

Life on the Line: Can Humanity Survive?

Can humanity survive? The odds are now stacked heavily against us...

(TASMANIA, Aust.) - Gandhi graffiti in San Francisco As we approach the International Day of Nonviolence on 2 October, which recognizes Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, one challenge we face is to celebrate his life in a way that Gandhi himself would have found meaningful.

Gandhi was not a man of token gestures. His life was dedicated to his search for the Truth and guided by his passionate belief that nonviolence was the means to reach it. He was a visionary who was profoundly aware of the damage human violence is doing to ourselves, each other and the Earth.

The daylight of a global awakening...

(KABUL) - Abdulhai in Kabul We, the Afghan Peace Volunteers, are finding strength amidst our dark nights because, in the daylight of a global awakening, we see people throughout the world refusing to comply with oppressive systems.

Small Talk Can Mean a Big Deal

My conclusion as an explorer of human relations is that "small talk" often reaps big positive results.

(SALEM) - Small talk When much, much younger, I mistakenly thought that intelligence was what made me worthwhile as a person. My brain was viewed as my most important functioning organ, and so those feeble attempts to spout "knowledge" drove the engine.

I can recall how at age 8 or 9 my father would march me in front of other adults as a show-and-tell showcase he could glorify about.

The Rule of Law: Unjust and Violent

Elite control of governments is now destroying hard-won human rights and civil liberties, as well as environmental protections...

(TASMANIA, Aust.) - Cruel world by ~NanaBleedsStars The common phrase is 'law and order' but does the legal system deal with dysfunctional social behavior in ways that keep us safe?

While diverse but eminent historical figures such as Karl Marx, Leo Tolstoy and Mohandas K. Gandhi all wrote critiques exposing the injustice and violence of legal systems, the delusion that the law is a neutral agency that delivers justice still widely prevails.

Canceling my Time Mag subscription... Fly Me Over The Cuckoo`s Nest

We have the best government money can buy. - Mark Twain

(DAYTONA BEACH, FL) - One flew over the cuckoo's nest Don't tell me it's not your fault that this country has gone stark raving bonkers.. If we've developed a sea-to-shining-sea Cuckoo's Nest, you and your ilk have functioned collectively like Nurse Ratchet.

Witness the most recent meds you've forced on us - for the second week in a row, you extolled that humble Argentinian godfather in Rome, with an eye, I suppose on your 40% Catholic readership. But that's just one small bilk by your ilk.

End Dirty Wars

The only thing America has to show for 11 years of war in Afghanistan and nearly nine years of invasion in Iraq are fewer American lives lost, thanks to their use of depleted uranium.

(MANAMA, Bahrain) - Napalm Vietnam All wars are dirty wars. One stands out for the number of lives lost in the minds and memories of Americans--the Vietnam War.

The American public had enough of both the meaningless domino theory and the seemingly useless deaths of 58,000 American servicemen.

Between Heaven and Hell

More than 25 million Pakistani Christians are living below poverty line.

(ISLAMABAD) - Pakistan child The Bible shows that there are two great commandments. The first commandment is to love God with all our being. The second commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves. So how do we show that we love our neighbors?

Jesus said, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Peace Not Capitulation

To Mr Abbas and those at the helm in Ramallah I say, please, collect your papers, go home, dissolve the PA and put the burden of the occupation onto the occupiers not the occupied.

(LONDON) - Palestinian woman and Israeli forces Call me a cynic, but when it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck why do they insist on calling it a swan?

I am having a moment of déjà vu here. The talks about talks about how to conduct talks are underway in Washington and I cannot feel
