Yale University and the Problem of Anti-Semitism

Prof. Lawrence Davidson considers a recent Yale University conference on anti-Semitism which, instead of engaging in an objective discussion of an age old form of racism, ended up tying itself to an ideological view of the world that is itself racist and dedicating itself to the idea that any criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic.

(WEST CHESTER, Pa.) - Frame from a Yale video titled: Between the 23 and 25 August, Yale University in the USA held a conference entitled ‘Global anti-Semitism: a Crisis of Modernity’. It was sponsored by the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Antisemitism. Therefore, this was a university event and not one brought in from the outside to use Yale facilities.

On the surface there is nothing wrong with this. Anti-Semitism is an age old form of racism and it calls for ongoing academic study. The problem is that this particular conference approached the subject from the ideologically driven position of radical Zionism.

Glenn Beck: MLK Assassination to be Commemorated With Re-Segregation of Water Fountains

With this historic event creatively handled, perhaps the transit authority can devise a novel commemoration for the anniversary of King’s assassination, such as a day-long reinstatement of color-coded bus sections.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Glenn Beck I had assumed that my participation in conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.—held today on the anniversary and at the very location of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech—would be limited to supplying faulty directions to said memorial to a group of tourists clad in “Don’t Tread on Me” T-shirts this morning.

Out of curiosity I later ended up at the rally myself, where I was informed that the “keynote speaker”, another euphemism for Sarah Palin, had already spoken.

(TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras) - Protests in Tegucigalpa, Honduras During a meeting at the U.S. embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, shortly after last year’s coup d’état against President Mel Zelaya—which U.S. Ambassador to Honduras Hugo Llorens alternately defined at the meeting as “a clear-cut case of a coup” and a “whatever you call it”.

Deputy Mission Chief Simon Henshaw described Honduran soldiers and police as “extremely uneducated” in their physical abuse of peaceful anti-coup protesters, who were variously on the receiving end of tear gas canisters, cigarette butts, vaginally-inserted police batons, and the occasional fatal bullet to the head.

Staying Hooked on a Dirty Fuel: Why Canadian Tar Sands are a Bad Bet for the United States

Environmental groups are warning the pipeline is almost certain to spill, and that the fuel it will carry known as tar sands is far dirtier and more polluting than conventional oil or gas.

Access to Water Improves Quality of Life for Women & Children

In recent decades, a new generation of innovative approaches to hunger alleviation has emerged from farmers groups, private voluntary organizations, universities, and agribusiness companies.

(DAKAR, Senegal) - Multiple Use Water System in Nepal.
