Most Power Outages on West Coast Restored

Residents should remain prepared for difficult weather and continued or even repeated outages through Sunday.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Power lines Power crews made progress overnight restoring power in Southern Oregon, Northern California and Southeastern Washington. The overnight count of customers without power was cut nearly in half, to approximately 5,800 throughout the three states.

Company and contract crews continue to work around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Teen Girl Dies in Crash Near Huntington

Fatal Traffic Crash - Interstate 84 west of Huntington

(HUNTINGTON, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Huntington, Oregon, 1-5-08 A 13-year old Pasco, Washington girl died and four others were seriously injured Saturday morning in a single vehicle rollover crash westbound Interstate 84 just west of the Huntington exit in eastern Oregon.

Around 6:30 AM, a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by 38-year old Adrian Edwardo Garcia of Pasco, Washington was westbound on Interstate 84 when it lost control on the ice covered roadway and started to slide in a clockwise direction.

High Winds Overturn Vehicles, Closing Interstate 84 for Two Hours

No injuries were reported when several large commercial trucks tipped over this morning on the freeway east of Portland.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Crash on I-84 in Oregon, overturned semi trucks: 1-4-08 Oregon State Police say Interstate 84 near Pendleton reportedly has reopened after being closed Friday morning due to high winds and poor visibility.

Three commercial vehicles and another vehicle overturned and some Oregon State Police vehicles were damaged by flying rocks.

Powerful Storms Will Slam the West Coast this Weekend

Snow fell Thursday in the mountains of California, Washington, and Oregon, with some locations picking up several inches.

(State College, Pa.) - wx update 1408 A series of storms will slam the West Coast this weekend, causing many weather-related problems for the region. One storm started to impact parts of Oregon and California with rain, snow, and gusty winds Thursday, weather experts at Accuweather.com report.

Damaging winds will continue to pound the coast today as the storm intensifies and impacts the region. The storms will also buffet the coast and mountains with strong winds.

Parade of Pacific Storms Will Spread Rain and Snow from Canada to Mexico (VIDEO)

Intense winds will add to the severity of the storms in the Sierra, with blizzard conditions creating extremely dangerous travel conditions in the mountains.

(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) - Accuweather.com weather map The nation's western states will undergo a change in the weather in the upcoming days. The widespread dry weather that dominated the region as 2008 arrived will be replaced by the return of the parade of Pacific storms.

The storms will spread rain and snow from British Columbia to the Mexican border, with the heaviest snow and rain targeting northern and central California.

Mother and Daughter Die from Injuries Sustained in New Year`s Eve Crash

Police say the daughter was riding on her mother's lap in the back of the vehicle without seatbelts.

(ODELL, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Ocell, Oregon, 12-31-07 A mother and her 8-year old daughter both from West Linn died early Tuesday morning at Portland-area hospitals from injuries sustained in a Monday morning crash on Highway 35 south of Odell, police say. A third person remains in critical condition, and Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation.

48-year old Anita Kawecki and 6-year old Anna Kawecki were passengers in a car that lost control on an icy section of Highway 35 south of Odell and was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet Blazer.

FEMA Makes Funds Available for a number of repairs and replacements.

(CLATSKANIE, Ore.) - Flood and mudslide scene from Clatskanie in December FEMA will open a Disaster Recovery Center for Oregonians affected by recent floods at the Clatskanie Fire Department. Residents in the Clatskanie, Woodson and Westport areas impacted by December's storms and mudslides may register with FEMA next week.

11 Vehicles Smashed on Black Ice on Oregon Highway 34

Drivers are reminded to slow down and use extreme caution in the coming weeks and months as cold weather and ice make roadways hazardous.

(TANGENT, Ore.) - Crash on Oregon Highway 34, 12-30-07 Firefighters and rescue crews in Oregon have been busy throughout the night dealing with crashes from icy road conditions. Linn County and the area around the interstate freeway saw a number of fender benders and more serious crashes.

Dennis Weis with the Tangent Fire Department says his agency which is located in Linn County, responded to five crashes on Highway 34 in a two hour window that were related to the current winter conditions.

Freezing Temperatures Bring Black Ice to Roadways

Some tips on staying alive while driving this winter. Temperatures at midnight Sunday are in the 20's.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Driving in winter Wet roads in the valley are beginning to turn to black ice as temperatures dip below freezing. Police say it is time for drivers to slow down and pay serious attention to potentially hazardous conditions brought about by winter conditions.

"Drivers are warned to use caution," Lt. Steve Birr with Salem Police said. As the name implies, black ice is invisible. In recent days Salem has seen a number of crashes related to ice including one fatality involving a 24-year old Salem woman.

Relief Center Handles Continuing Problems in Columbia County

Weather related problems continue in this Oregon community.

(VERNONIA, Ore.) - Vernonia flood cleanup The town of Vernonia and surrounding communities in Columbia County have been ravaged by recent storm damage and weather conditions are not helping the situation.

Officials reported today that a major slide has occurred on Timber Road, closing it to all traffic in both directions. There has been no reports of any injuries. The slide is located approximately 6 miles from Hwy 47 and Vernonia and about 2 miles from Hwy 26 at Timber Junction.
