(EUGENE, Ore.) - Paul Petock took a series of photos of the frozen landscapes in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon Western Oregon's cold snap is over and life is resuming its normal pace for most residents. The snow and ice overtook the area very quickly and many Oregonians were essentially snowbound last week.

Gateway Fred Meyer Store`s Roof Partially Collapses (PHOTOS)

Portland Fire & Rescue responds to two separate commercial partial collapse‏s.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gateway Fred Meyer Store roof collapse Portland Firefighters responded to an early Saturday morning call for a partially collapsed roof at the Gateway Fred Meyer Store, located at 1111 NE 102nd Ave. The call was received at 7:00 AM, and crews arrived on scene shortly after receiving the call, Kim Kosmas with Portland Fire said.

With that in mind this reporter took note of the eerie silence as I left the big box store where I work on the east side. Listening for a few moments I heard nothing. No traffic noise, people talking, shopping carts rattling alone or migrating geese.

Roof Collapses at Tualatin Commercial Building

The building has been deemed unsafe to occupy.

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - Collapsed roof at Tualatin city bldg. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue responded to a roof collapse of a commercial building at 8750 SW Old Tualatin Sherwood Road in Tualatin just after 9:00 AM this morning.

Walt Peck with TVFR says the caller to 9-1-1 also reported a strong odor of natural gas. Upon arrival, crews located and turned off the natural gas line for the building and worked to secure the site.

The portion of the building that experienced the roof collapse was unused and not heated. This likely contributed to an even greater build-up in the snow and ice load.

A Day in the Snow With Angus

A winter moment can remind us all of what a beautiful season it really is.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Angus the dog in Oregon Angus and I went for a walk today. It was before the rain had started to fall, so the grass was still tall and encased in thin sheets of ice in this lonely field we waded through. The wind picked up and the air was so cold and clear you could taste the snow on your tongue. Ever hear frozen blades of grass rustle and crackle in the wind? It's almost too loud.
