Chantal to Hit Puerto Rico, Hispaniola the Hardest

In most situations similar to Chantal, the worst of the rain and heaviest squalls tend to occur near, east and northeast of the storm track.

(STATE COLLEGE, PA AccuWeather.com) - Chantal AccuWeather.com reports as Chantal tracks west-northwestward across the Caribbean, the greatest threat from the tropical storm will be from flooding this week.

The Windward islands will experience tropical storm conditions Tuesday, followed by similar conditions over parts of the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Tuesday night and Wednesday. Haiti and the Dominican Republic would be impacted by Chantal later Wednesday into Thursday.

Water Levels Rise on Mississippi, But Below St. Louis

The runoff will translate to higher levels downstream on the Mississippi River through Memphis, Tenn., Vicksburg, Miss., and eventually New Orleans.

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - NOAA weather images AccuWeather reports a series of storms and recent thaw has driven water levels up on the Ohio and lower Mississippi rivers, but little change has occurred at St. Louis. Record-challenging low levels are forecast at the Gateway to the West.

Several drenching storms, combined with snow melt in some areas during the recent warm spell, have pushed a few tributaries of the Ohio River to flood levels in recent days.
