Willamette`s Freeby Named Women`s West Region Athlete of the Year

Three of her teammates: Taylor Ostrander, Olivia Mancl and Annette Marinello, were named All-West Region.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - It has been a career filled with impressive accolades for junior Michaela Freeby and the 2013 cross country season only added to it.

After winning both the Northwest Conference individual championship and the West Regional title, Freeby was named the West Region Women's Athlete of the Year in 2013.

Oregon State Baseball Earns #1 National Seed

The postseason appearance is the 15th all-time for the Beavers, and the sixth consecutive, which extends a program record.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - sports The Oregon State baseball team will enter the 2014 NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 National Seed, the NCAA selection committee announced Monday morning.

The seeding is the highest ever for the Beavers, who were the No. 8 national seed in 2005 and No. 3 last season.

Oregon Softball Team Heads to Oklahoma City This Week for the Women`s College World Series

The Ducks were named the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA softball championship for the first time in program history

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The No. 1 seed Oregon softball team heads to Oklahoma City this week for the Women's College World Series.

The Ducks will meet No. 8 seed Florida State on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. PT in their first game of the tournament. ESPN will broadcast the game.

Snowmobile Crash Into Tree Kills Lebanon Man

The victim suffered a severe head injury. Approximately one hour later, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

(ALBANY, Or.) - Lifeflight at fatal snowmobile crash, 3-22-14 A fatal crash Saturday involving a snowmobile rider from Lebanon is under investigation by Linn County deputies. Sheriff Bruce Riley says the victim in the crash, George Elmer Eichner, 67, was wearing a helmet.

The crash happened at approximately 4:00 p.m. Linn County 9-1-1 dispatch received a call reporting the crash was near Hoodoo Ski Bowl on the Santiam Pass.

The Marine Board sells both an annual and two-year Tyvek tags for paddle craft and can be purchased through the Marine Board’s office in Salem or online through the Marine Board’s new storefront

(SALEM OR) - "So far so good, but we’ve got a long way to go,” state officials say about the on-going efforts to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species and keeping new ones from entering the state.

Even key legislators such as Representative Caddy McKeown see the progress being made and see that more needs to be done to protect our waterways.

That’s why the Marine Board and Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) work in tandem to administer the statewide Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Program, where the Marine Board administers the financial aspects and ODFW implements statewide inspection stations.

Ken Collins Responds to Laird Hamilton on Carlos Burle and Maya Gabeira

Laird Hamilton appeared on CNN, saying that Carlos Burle's wave could only be considered the "wipeout of the year" because at the end of his ride, Carlos fell.

(GIG HARBOR) - Salem-News.com On October 29, 2013, a massive swell hit Nazaré, Portugal. Big wave surfers Maya Gabiera and Carlos Burle decided to test their merit on the wave.

Maya, despite intense training and preparation, broke her ankle on the wave and, after a struggle, drowned in the turbulent waters. Her rescue partner Carlos Burle managed to get her out of the water and give her CPR on the beach. She was taken to the hospital and will live to surf another wave.
