Trio of Ducks Take Home Pac-12 Honors

Devon Allen, from Phoenix, Ariz., set a Pac-12 record in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships, clocking a personal-best 13.16 seconds

(WALNUT CREEK, Calif.) - Jenna Prandini Oregon sprinter Jenna Prandini, hurdler Devon Allen and head coach Robert Johnson each were honored with Pac-12 track and field awards, the conference announced, Tuesday.

Prandini was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year as well as the Field Athlete of the Year, Allen was awarded the Men’s Newcomer of the Year and Johnson was tabbed both the men’s and women’s Coach of the Year.

(RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil) - Mexico Brazil World Cup Mexico, who suffered through a disastrous qualifying campaign in the CONCACAF zone, were inspired against Brazil in Fortaleza and earned a 0-0 draw against the much-fancied hosts.

The Estadio Castelao crowd was treated to one of the most entertaining goalless draws in FIFA World Cup history as Mexican goalkeeper Memo Ochoa put in a performance for the ages.

Belgium Rallies to Defeat Algeria, 2-1

Belgium had began the match as overwhelming favorite's - considered even as dark horses for the trophy.

(RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil) - Belgium World Cup Second-half goals from substitutes Marouane Fellaini and Dries Mertens enabled Belgium to come from behind and beat Algeria 2-1 in their Group H opener.

There was as much relief as joy for Marc Wilmots' side at Belo Horizonte's Estadio Mineirao, although they ultimately merited a win that had looked unlikely until the coach began shuffling his pack.

On the all-time lists at George Fox, Rapacz ranks ninth in batting average and hits, 11th in doubles, 12th in runs, 14th in total bases, 17th in on base pct., and 18th in runs batted in.

(TAMPA BAY, Fla. ) - Putting the finishing touches to one of the best careers in George Fox University history, the Bruins’ All-America catcher, Josh Rapacz, has been picked up to play professional baseball as an undrafted free agent with Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays of the American League.

Rapacz, a native of West Richland, Wash., will begin his pro career by reporting to the Rays’ Florida Gulf Coast Rookie League team in Port Charlotte, Fla.

16 Oregon Volleyball Games to be Televised

The Ducks will begin their season August 29 against Ohio State.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - The 2014 Oregon volleyball schedule will feature 16 televised matches including two in front of a national audience on ESPNU.

For the first nationally-televised match of the year, Oregon will take on Stanford, Oct. 3, followed by a match against Washington, Nov. 7, in Seattle.

Beavers Volleyball: 12 Games on Pac-12 Network

After hosting Michigan, the Beavers turn around and host Michigan State Sept. 13.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - The Oregon State volleyball team announced its 2014 schedule on Monday, and 12 matches have been scheduled for broadcast by the Pac-12 Networks.

Oregon State will appear on TV at Gill Coliseum six times, starting with the 2014 home opener, Sept. 12 against Michigan.

USA Gets Revenge on Ghana with 2-1 Victory

USA lost starting center-forward Jozy Altidore - stretchered off with a serious looking injury.

(RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil) - A first-minute goal by Clint Dempsey and a late winner from substitute John Brooks helped USA avenge their 2010 exit to Ghana with a 2-1 victory over the Black Stars in Natal.

The hard-fought win leaves Jurgen Klinsmann's side second to Germany only on goal difference in Group G, while Ghana are left alongside Portugal without a point to their name.

Mr. Padre Tony Gwynn Dead at 54

Gwynn's .338 career batting average over 20 seasons -- all of them with the Padres -- is the highest since Ted Williams retired from the Red Sox in 1960 with a .344 average.

(SAN DIEGO, Calif. ) - Tony Gwynn Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, the greatest Padres player and arguably the best Major League hitter of the latter part of the 20th century, passed away early Monday morning at Pomerado Hospital in Poway, Calif., surrounded by his family.

Gwynn, who was 54, had been battling salivary gland cancer.
