Silverton Man Killed in Thursday Morning Crash Was Watchman at Capital Manor

The staff and residents of the retirement facility in West Salem are still in shock and disbelief that one of their own was killed by a suspected drunk driver

(SALEM) - Capital Manor in West Salem A Thursday morning crash in Polk County, at the intersection of Highway 99W and Highway 22, claimed the life of 67-year-old Edward Douglas from Silverton who, for the past 4-years, had been a well loved night watchman at Capital Manor. Capital Manor Executive Director Scott Ferguson said the staff and residents are still in shock over Douglas` death.

`The residents loved him, he would take the extra time just to sit and talk with them about anything, this is a HUGE loss for everyone here` Ferguson said.

Staff members said they appreciated and respected Douglas because when it was dark outside, he would watch them to make sure they made it safely to and from their cars.

As one staff member put it, `he was one of the good guys".

22-year-old Jonathan Orsborn from Dallas remains in the Polk County Jail on a number of charges.

State Police Fish and Wildlife Troopers Stop Suicide Attempt in Wooded Area East of Silverton

(SILVERTON) - Two Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division troopers found and prevented a Marion County resident reportedly attempting suicide Saturday afternoon east of Silverton.

The man reportedly is in critical condition but itis reported that he will survive. One of the troopers, Adam Turnbo, helped save three individuals two weekends ago after their canoe overturned in the Willamette River.

Saturday at approximately 2:30 PM, OSP Trooper Adam Turnbo and Trooper Dennis Conrad, a retired trooper working under contract with the Department of Forestry, were contacted by two subjects at the Abiqua Mainline gate off Highway 213 east of Silverton.

They said that they had received a call from a friend who said he was going to commit suicide in the area.

Developer Wants Hotel Next to Troubled Oregon Garden

Making the Oregon Garden a destination for a larger market is priority.

(SILVERTON AP) - Oregon Garden logo A California hotel developer will take over operations of the Oregon Garden tourist attraction in hopes of rescuing it, according to an interim agreement.

Moonstone Hotel Properties plans a 100-unit hotel overlooking the Silverton attraction.

"It's the hotel that's going to make the money, not the garden," said John Lattimer, Marion County's chief administrative officer.

Marion County and Silverton officials said the deal might be the garden's best chance to overcome the garden's financial problems, although major creditors, including the city and county, might not be repaid in full for many years.

Elementary School Teacher Accused of Sexual Abuse Due in Court Monday

Farming town shocked by teacher's arrest on Sex Abuse Charges

(PRATUM) - The arrest Thursday of a Pratum Elementary School teacher on child sex abuse charges has left the residents and students of the small farming community northeast of Salem in shock and disbelief.

Gould, who taught 6th through 8th graders, had been employed for the last 14 years, and was on paid administrative leave since Tuesday.

Pratum Elementary School Teacher Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

The teacher allegedly offended the student over a period of two years

(PRATUM) - Matthew Gould Photo: Marion County Sheriff Marion County Sheriff`s Detectives have arrested a Pratum Elementary School teacher on allegations of child sex abuse.

43-year-old Matthew Gould, of Silverton, was arrested by detectives on multiple child sex abuse charges.

Gould has been on paid administrative leave since Tuesday morning when he arrived for work at Pratum Elementary School, near Silverton, where he was a teacher.

Smith argued that the tax cuts passed since President Bush took office were good for the economy and were bringing more revenues into government coffers. Apparently, some people just won`t let facts get in the way of their political agenda.

Nine People Injured in Collision Near Silverton

(Silverton) - Nine people were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Silverton Saturday afternoon, just after 3:30 PM.

Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff's Office say the crash happened at Hazelgreen Rd/Brush Creek Rd, in Silverton.

A total of nine people were involved in the accident. Seven of those were children.

DA Releases More Information in Death of Man Involved in Police Pursuit

Incident began with an early morning traffic stop in Wilsonville, and ended in an apparent self-inflicted fatal gunshot near the Silverton city line.

(Salem) - Anthony Solich Photo Courtesy: Marion County DA Investigators from the Oregon State Police, the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Keizer Police Department continue to investigate the death of a man who they say shot himself on Highway 214 west of Silverton following a lengthy police chase early Tuesday morning. The deceased man has been identified as 35-year old Anthony James Solich of Eugene.
