Two People Die in Crash on Interstate 5 South of Roseburg

One woman who died in the crash was a U.S. Army soldier who was 8-months pregnant.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Roesburg, Oregon 5-4-08 Two women were killed, including one who was 8 months pregnant, and a man was critically injured early Sunday morning in a two vehicle head-on crash involving a wrong way driver in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 about 3 miles south of Roseburg, Oregon State Police said.

OSP Senior Trooper Mark Moore says early this morning, at approximately 3:17 AM, a two vehicle head-on crash was reported on Interstate 5 near milepost 118 in Douglas County.

Update on Douglas County Officer Involved Shooting Investigation

The man has been identified as 46 year old Donald Eugene Lowry of Myrtle Creek.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Police shooting update Law enforcement officials in Douglas County, Oregon have released the name of a man killed over the weekend by officers after what they describe as a standoff.

The man, identified as 46-year old Donald Eugene Lowry of Myrtle Creek, reportedly emerged from his car with a gun and was shot and killed. Six different officers fired at the man. They have not yet been identified.

Six Police Officers Fire Fatal Shots at Man in Douglas County

Police say the man was killed after he exited a car brandishing a handgun.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Police shooting A Douglas County man died early Sunday morning after he was shot by police officers during what they describe as an armed standoff on a rural logging road, following the man's attempt to elude State, county and city police officers.

Police say it began at approximately 1:20 AM this morning when an Oregon State Police trooper attempted contact with a lone male occupant of a suspicious vehicle at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Roseburg to Host OSU Workshop for Winemakers

Douglas County is an emerging wine producing region, known to vintners and wine lovers alike as the Umpqua Valley AVA.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - wine photo Oregon State University Extension enologist James Osborne will offer a day-long workshop, "When Good Wine Goes Bad – A One-Day Workshop on the Microbial Spoilage of Wine," on Wednesday, April 23, in Roseburg.

In the workshop, Osborne will discuss the various microorganisms present during the winemaking process that can cause wine to spoil. He will lead participants in a series of wine tastings to illustrate specific spoilage issues and associated taints in wine.

Oregon Fails to Indict Turban Attackers with a Hate Crime

(ROSEBERG, Ore.) - The Douglas County Oregon Court in Roseburg Three Oregon men who attacked a Sikh trucker and ripped a turban off his head, will not be charged with a hate crime. A Douglas County, Oregon grand jury declined to indict three men. The Sikh Coalition calls the matter disappointing.

The Coalition says they learned yesterday that the grand jury instead chose to indict the men on the lesser charges of harassment and theft in the third degree.

Winter Cold Keeps Oregon Highways Closed

Oregon 62, 230 and 138E remain closed.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Snow with cars passing Sections of Oregon Highways 62 and 138E and the entire stretch of Oregon Highway 230 will remain closed through Tuesday, Feb. 5 as downed trees and large amounts of snowfall have made the highways impassable.


"Drivers shouldn’t make plans to travel on these highways until at least Wednesday," said Oregon Department of Transportation District Manager John Vial. He says there is a lot of clean-up work ahead.

Driver Seriously Injured on Interstate 5 South of Roseburg

Troopers are attempting to locate a third unidentified vehicle involving in this crash that drove away southbound from the scene.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Crash on I-5 South of Roseburg, Oregon, 1-7-08 A Roseburg man was seriously injured Sunday night in a weather-related traffic crash on Interstate 5 south of Roseburg.

Police say the man had just returned to his car after a non-injury single vehicle crash when he was struck by a driver and actually ejected from his vehicle.

(ROSEBURG) - Interstate five in southern Oregon at milepost 154 near Roseburg is completely closed.

OSP says the closure is due to a fatality crash between a semi truck and a passenger vehicle.

There is no estimated time on when the freeway will re-open.

(ROSEBURG) - photo: Friday night accident south of Roseburg Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are looking for witnesses related to a late Friday night single vehicle traffic crash that critically injured one person on Interstate 5 northbound about three miles south of Roseburg.

On December 1st at about 11:36 PM, a white 1990 Plymouth Laser two door driven by 17-year old Adam J. Poole, from Roseburg, was northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 121 in the left lane when it lost control, hit an embankment on the outside edge of the freeway and rolled.
