Socialized Medicine Works, says VHA

A look at the positive side of veteran's healthcare in the U.S.A.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Wheelchair and flag The VHA has adopted a government run medical model to which most veterans would give high marks. Rick Tanner, 66, served in Vietnam and spent three decades in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1991 with a bad knee and high blood pressure and now receives comprehensive care with few co-payments and a system that utilizes an electronic records system more advanced than almost anywhere in the private hospital system.

“The care is superb,” said Tanner of San Diego. The record- keeping is “state of the art.”

Militants in Afghanistan Are Learning the Vietnam Model

What were our strategic goals in Afghanistan? Now that any goal seems implausible, no benchmarks to be reached, should we negotiate a withdrawal as in Iraq?

(CINCINATTI, Ohio) - Wreckage outside Kabul, Afghanistan by Tim King I remember reading about "hearts and minds" and how it was the key to a victory in Vietnam. I also remember walking thru villages in Vietnam on my way out into the hills. Seeing people raising children during a vicious war was a reminder of what war is about.

We are always meaning well, we love saying that, but left broken lives, poisoned soil and decades of bitterness behind us.

Into the Dark: America`s Descent into a Police State

Manipulated America: Divided we Fall.

(CINCINATTI, Ohio) - Newsweek fiction cover Top US officials are reported to have been selling US nuclear weapons secrets around the world as part of a spy ring which includes members of Congress from both parties.

These and other accusations are broadly substantiated, but only by the American Conservative and newspapers around the world, including significant revelations about a 9/11 coverup. How can this be done in a "free country?"

Typhoons, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Forgotten Victims, and possible links to the spread of Agent Orange

A tough week – the Philippines, Indonesia, American Samoa, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and of course, Vietnam.

(DA NANG, Vietnam) - Photo: Geoffrey Cain/IRIN At least 92 people were killed when Ketsana struck central Vietnam on Tuesday One thing amazes me during and after a natural disaster occurs – including those that have occurred in our own United States – has it ever occurred to anyone, or is it just me? Those that are mostly affected are those that need these disasters the least.

Not to minimize anyone on our planet, their resources, the destruction and devastation that they have experienced, but why is it that the poor, those that have been through so much, those who have to beg for a few Dong just to eat seem to be the most gravely affected? It’s been an impossible week for so many people, so many countries.

Are Right Wing Extremists Trying to Recruit Our Troops?

"We are in a battle for the hearts and minds of our own troops" - Direct quote from Oath Keepers

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - Photo courtesy: thedonovan.com A few months ago there was a controversy that got just as much a radical reception from the right-wing as the tea parties and Fox news coverage of the never ending Health Care debate.

The controversy I'm really talking about is when the Director of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano was pressured by right-wing talk radio commentators and other conservative mouth pieces like the American Legion, to apologize to America's Veterans and Troops for something that actually is a real threat.

PTSD: Rapacious Demons in Our Heads, Psychiatric Malpractice in Grey`s Anatomy

One Hollywood TV show receives favorable reviews, from a doctor who would know.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - The cast of Grey's Anatomy I believe Grey's Anatomy as a depiction of the life of Medical/Surgical interns and residents is outstanding. I went through that meat grinder myself and I psychologically compared it to front-line infantry combat. Death is/was the enemy and as interns, green as glass, it seemed sometimes that we were required to know MORE than the Senior Residents or Staff Doctors.
