Grants Recognize Excellence in Performing and Literary Arts

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Arts Commission The Oregon Arts Commission announces 13 recipients of its 2011 Individual Fellowships, awarded to performers and writers of exceptional talent and demonstrated ability, professional achievement and continuing dedication to an artistic discipline. Peer-review panels of artists and arts professionals from across Oregon recommended the recipients to the Arts Commission.

No. 1 Concordia falls to Hastings 2-1 in Second Round of the NAIA Women`s Soccer National Championships

(DECATUR, Ala.) - Concordia University Athletics After squaring the match midway through the second half, a goal with just under five minutes remaining doomed the top-seeded Cavaliers as unseeded Hastings (Neb.) defeated Concordia University 2-1 in the Second Round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championships.

The loss was the lone blemish on Concordia's season as the Cavs ended the year with a 19-1-2 record. Hastings (16-4-2) will advance to the quarterfinals and will face either No. 9 William Carey (Miss.) or unseeded Houghton (N.Y.) on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

But for some reason, being in a club as an adult can get a person in to real trouble. Belonging to a motorcycle club in particular, is a sure way to earn the attention of police, who are often trained to assume that a person two wheels with a patch on their back is a real danger.

Portland Fire and Rescue Responds to House Fire in SW Portland in Freezing Conditions

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Fire in Portland Portland firefighters responded to reports of fire coming from the rear of a single-family residence located in the 5500 block SW Idaho St. at 6:37 am.

Firefighters arrived at the scene five minutes later at 6:43 am. Crews encountered heavy fire coming from the front and rear of the structure. Less than one minute after firefighters arrived and began pulling hose lines, a flashover occurred on the main floor of the structure.

In Defense of Animals Urges Holiday Shoppers to Go Fur-Free

Hundreds will march through downtown Portland Friday to share message of compassion

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Rabbits On Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, more than 200 animal lovers are expected to participate in a peaceful, police-escorted march in downtown Portland to celebrate Fur Free Friday. Holiday shoppers will be greeted by throngs of spirited activists carrying signs including a 10 foot banner with images of fur-bearing animals that reads, "Thanks for not buying fur." The "Radical Cheerleaders" will perform for passersby along a route that passes all Portland stores that still sell fur.

Portland - Subject Shoots at Police; Officer-Involved Shooting Occurs

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Shooting investigation logo Today at 12:40 a.m., East Precinct Officers responded to a call in the 11000 Block of SE 106th and Cherry Blossom Avenue regarding a family disturbance. The caller stated that he had accidentally shot his stepson.

When officers arrived, the owner of the home reported that his stepson was attacking his stepdaughter and that the stepdaughter and wife were still in the house. The man also reported that he accidentally shot his stepson during the course of the argument.
