Oregon State Championship Event to be Held Monday

Oregon State is the first back-to-back champion since LSU in 1996-97 and the fifth overall.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - osu player photo The National Champion Oregon State baseball team will be honored upon its return to Corvallis in a ceremony at Parker Plaza, adjacent to Reser Stadium, Monday afternoon.

All of Beaver Nation is invited to attend the event, which will be held Monday at approximately 2:30 PM.

Oregon State Repeats as College World Series Champion

(OMAHA, Neb.) - osu wins photo Oregon State became the first team in a decade to repeat as College World Series champion, completing a dominant run through the tournament with a 9-3 victory over North Carolina on Sunday night.

The Beavers (49-18) won all five of their CWS games, including a sweep of the Tar Heels in the best-of-three finals, and trailed for only one of 45 innings they played in Omaha.

Several Beavers Spend Part of Day Visiting Sick Kids

They talked to kids about baseball, getting better, and they even sang happy birthday to a 3-year old.

Players Erik Ammon, Blake Keitzman and Braden Wells joined coach Pat Casey and Ron Northcutt, OSU's director of baseball operations, in a visit to the Pediatrics Unit of Nebraska Medical Center.

Oregon State Rocks UC Irvine, Back in CWS Championship

Mitch Canham hit a two-run homer, Darwin Barney had two RBI singles and John Wallace added a run-scoring triple for the Beavers.

(OMAHA, Neb.) - Daniel Turpen photo Daniel Turpen allowed five hits over eight innings and defending champion Oregon State beat UC Irvine 7-1 in the College World Series on Wednesday night, ending the Anteaters' dramatic postseason run.

The win sends the Beavers (47-18) into the best-of-three championship series starting Saturday. They will play the winner of Thursday's Rice-North Carolina game for the title.

Oregon State Keeps Rolling With 12-6 Win Over ASU

OSU will next play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. PDT against the winner of Tuesday evening’s game between ASU and Califoria-Irvine.

(OMAHA, Neb.) - new osu logo Mike Stutes and three relievers combined to hold one of the nation's top hitting and scoring teams to seven hits, and Oregon State revved up its own offense to beat Arizona State 12-6 in the College World Series on Monday night.

Mike Lissman went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs. Chris Hopkins, Joey Wong and Jason Ogata also had three hits apiece.

Oregon State Holds on to Defeat Titans, 3-2

Saturday’s victory over CSUF was the first time in the Beavers’ four CWS appearances that they won their opening game.

(OMAHA, Neb.) - osu baseball photo Scott Santschi hit his first homer of the season and had two runs batted in as defending champion Oregon State survived some nervous moments to defeat Cal State-Fullerton 3-2 in the College World Series on Saturday night.

Freshman righthander Jorge Reyes pitched six innings and allowed just one run on three hits to earn the win for OSU (45-18), outdueling Titan standout Wes Roemer.

Oregon State will now play fellow Pac-10 member Arizona State on Monday at 6:00 PM in the winners’ bracket game of their pool.

Oregon State Ready to Begin Title Defense

(OMAHA, Neb.) - osu baseball photo Oregon State’s baseball team spent Friday morning getting in a final practice for its College World Series opener, then the Beavers had the rest of the day free to enjoy the Omaha hoopla that surrounds college baseball’s biggest event every June.

On Saturday, OSU (44-18 overall) will begin its third straight appearance in the College World Series when it takes on Cal State-Fullerton (38-23) at 4:00 PM PDT.

Freshman righthander Jorge Reyes will get the pitching start for the Beavers.

Oregon Philanthropist Leaves $8 Million to OSU

The Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families will be part of OSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - osu campus photo Hallie Ford, a noted Oregon philanthropist, made a gift of $8 million to Oregon State University shortly before she died, generously supporting a cause she advocated for throughout her lifetime — Oregon’s children and their families.

Her final act of philanthropy will build the Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families, a facility on Oregon State University’s campus that will house a group of researchers who take a lifespan and preventive approach to child and family health.

Oregon State to Graduate Largest Class in School History

The number of degrees easily surpasses last year’s record totals when 4,178 students received 4,334 degrees.

OSU Study: Salvage Logging, Replanting Increased Biscuit Fire Severity

The study was done in areas that had burned twice – once in the 1987 Silver Fire, and again in the massive 2002 Biscuit Fire, one of the largest forest fires in modern United States history.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - biscuit fire photo The Biscuit Fire of 2002 burned more severely in areas that had been salvage logged and replanted, compared to similar areas that were also burned in a 1987 fire but had been left to regenerate naturally, a new study concludes.

The analysis, one of the first to ever quantify the effect of salvage logging and replanting on future fire severity, is being published this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a professional journal, by scientists from Oregon State University and the Pacific Northwest Research Station of the USDA Forest Service.
