Serious Injury Traffic Crash - Highway 229 North of Toledo

Police cautioning travelers to slow down and be alert for unexpected icy condition on roads that appear to be dry.

(TOLEDO, Ore.) - Head on crash near Toledo, Oregon 25 Feb 2011 Three people were injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle head-on crash Friday afternoon on Highway 229 about six miles north of Toledo.

This crash happened on Highway 229 near milepost 26 when a driver lost control on an icy stretch after passing other vehicles, fishtailed and then traveled into the oncoming lane colliding head-on with an approaching car.

Icy Conditions Lead to Sunday Morning Tragedy

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Fatal crash A Hamlet fire truck with volunteer firefighter Kyle Mergel seated inside, was stopped in the right hand eastbound lane with emergency lights activated when a 2002 Kia Optima four-door was westbound and lost control, spinning around and across the highway where it crashed broadside into the front of the fire truck.

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) Detected in Oil Leaking from Derelict Vessel

A primary and secondary containment area has now been established around the vessel.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oil sheen around the derelict vessel Davey Crockett Follow up tests of oil samples taken from a 431-foot derelict vessel, Davy Crockett, have detected low levels of PCBs.

Coast Guard, Ecology, Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality and other agencies responded and are working to cleanup oil and monitor the vessel.

Unified Command Works to Contain Sheen from Derelict Vessel Near Camas

Diving operations are on-going and dependent on the stability of the vessel.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The 431-foot barge, Davy Crockett Federal, state and local agencies, as well as industry, continue to work closely together to recover oil and monitor a 431-foot derelict vessel, Davy Crockett, near Camas, Wash., on the Columbia River, Sunday.

A Unified Command was established Thursday after Ecology received reports of a light, non-recoverable sheen.

Coast Guard Airlifts Stranded Boaters Near Goat Island, Wash.

The Coast Guard encourages all boaters to remain aware of weather and tidal conditions and to wear a life jacket.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Coast Guard helicopter The Coast Guard airlifted two people after their skiff ran aground in Skagit Bay just southeast of La Conner, Wash., Thursday.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., Skagit County, Wash. Sheriff’s Dept. received a call stating a 20-ft inflatable skiff had run aground in shallow water just south of Goat Island.
