Rare, Comical Live Fish Washes Up on Seaside, Oregon Beach

The odd but somewhat endearing fish appeared to enjoy the spotlight.

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - Funny rat fish Another rare find from the deep has the crew at the Seaside Aquarium buzzing. The fish is cute and bizarre at the same time, and usually lives too deep in the ocean to show up on land.

A group of kids from Oregon City brought in a three-foot-long Spotted Ratfish Saturday, which they had found on the southern cove area of Seaside - still alive. “They brought it up to a lifeguard at one of the stations and asked what to do with it,” said aquarium spokesperson Tiffany Boothe. “They told them to bring it here.”

Rescuers Locate Missing Motorcyclist that Fell off Oregon Coast Cliff

The man was able to honk his motorcycle horn to pinpoint his location that was not visible unless someone stood on the edge of the road.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore. ) - osp patrol car Lincoln County-area police and fire agencies team together Wednesday evening to find an injured motorcyclist who had crashed off a remote US Forest Service Road southeast of Lincoln City.

The creative use of sirens and cell phone communications helped guide police and fire personnel to the injured man who was unaware of his exact location.

Oregon State Police Looking for Those Taking Dead Whale Parts

Oregon State Parks is working on a plan to remove and/or bury the whale, which will take place in the next few days.

Health Advisory Lifted for Water Contact at Oceanside Beach

State officials encourage recreational activities at all Oregon beaches, suggesting only that water contact be avoided when advisories are in effect.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore.) - Ocean water A health advisory for contact with marine water at Oceanside Beach in Tillamook County was lifted today by the Oregon Department of Human Services, in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

The advisory was issued May 22nd, after water samples at Oceanside Beach showed higher-than-normal levels of enterococcus, a type of fecal bacteria, in the marine water. Subsequent testing showed the contamination had subsided and the waters did not pose a higher-than-normal risk associated with water-contact activities.

While these advisories are in effect at Oceanside beach, visitors should avoid wading in nearby creeks or in discolored water, and stay clear of water runoff flowing into the ocean.

(OCEANSIDE, Ore.) - Oregon coast beach A public health advisory was issued Tuesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Oceanside Beach in Tillamook County.

Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in ocean waters can come from both shore and inland sources such as storm water runoff, sewer overflows, failing septic systems and even animal waste from livestock, pets and wildlife.

Coast Guard Rescues Injured Fisherman off Oregon Coast

The man is recovering today at a North Bend area hospital from severe to moderate injuries.

(NORTH BEND, Ore. ) - north bend rescue The Coast Guard evacuated an injured man from a 280-foot fishing vessel 20 miles off the Oregon Coast near North Bend at approximately 5:00 PM Sunday.

The man was hoisted from the fish catcher/processor American Triumph, homeported in Seattle, after he suffered injuries and was rendered unconscious.

The crew of a Coast Guard Air Station North Bend HH-65C Dolphin helicopter was launched to assist.

Charter Boat Bullfrog Sinks Off Oregon Coast

Everyone onboard the boat was rescued.

(TILLAMOOK, Ore. ) - coast guard rescue Coast Guard Captain Patrick Gerrity, Captain of the Port, Portland, Ore., is stressing safe operation of all vessels in Oregon waters, after the sinking of the charter vessel Bullfrog early Saturday and the investigation and events leading up to the sentencing of charter boat captain Richard Oba for Seaman's Manslaughter.

At 6:38 AM Saturday, the charter boat Bullforg sank 10-miles off the coast of Tillamook, Ore., after the vessel began taking on water with eight people on board.

Coast Guard Searching for Missing Fisherman off Oregon Coast

The missing man, along with two other fishermen who were rescued were not wearing life jackets.

(ASTORIA, Ore. ) - coast guard helo The Coast Guard is searching for a missing man after his 16-foot sport fishing boat capsized 100-yards west of Astoria Megler Bridge Saturday around 7:53 AM.

The missing man was last seen wearing a camo/green jacket and jeans and is described as a 40-year old male weighing 210 pounds.

Two other people were were thrown into the water with the missing man when the boat capsized. The two were quickly recovered by rescuers and were transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital.
