Oregon Law Enforcement Conducting Operation Dry Water

U.S. Coast Guard data reveals that alcohol is the primary contributing factor in recreational boating fatalities.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Benton County Marine Patrol The Oregon State Marine Board and law enforcement partners from 32 counties and Oregon State Police will be participating in Operation Dry Water, June 27-29.

In Oregon, the consequences of being convicted of BUII include the possibility of jail time, $6,250 in fines, and loss of boating or even driving privileges.

OSU Becomes Oregon`s First Accredited School of Public Health

“Integration is where the future of public health is headed,” said Tammy Bray, dean of the College of Public Health and Human Sciences.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State University Oregon State University’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences was granted accreditation on Tuesday, making it the first school of public health in Oregon to earn that recognition.

The accreditation, from the Council on Education for Public Health, means OSU has the only accredited school of public health between San Francisco and Seattle.

Police Need Help to ID Body Found in Willamette River

The body could have been in the water anywhere from 6 months to two years.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - Willamette River Body On April 19th, the body of an unidentified male was found along the banks of the Willamette River in Yamhill County.

Due to the state of decomposition, there were no visible identifying marks on the body. The victim also had a "bandage" around his lower right leg indicating a possible injury or a chronic condition like tendonitis.

New West Salem Grant Funds Available in July

Grant funds will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - West Salem Oregon Beginning in July, the City of Salem will be offering a new grant program, the West Salem Redevelopment Grant Program, to help property owners, businesses, and tenants in the West Salem Urban Renewal Area.

Grant funds may be used to add on to an existing building, construct a new building, or increase building utility for manufacturing purposes.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Hospital Salem Oregon The Salem Hospital Foundation announces that 103 students in medical or medically related fields will receive a scholarship for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Foundation awarded a total of $191,000 in scholarships to students pursuing degrees in a variety of medical programs.

One Dead, Two Injured in Oregon Hwy. 18 Crash

For an unconfirmed reason, the Ford Escort crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound Mercedes sport utility vehicle occupied by two people.

(OTIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into Monday night's two vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 18 about seventeen miles east of Otis in Polk County.

According to Lieutenant Justin McGladrey, at approximately 11:16 p.m., a 1997 Ford Escort was traveling eastbound on Highway 18 near milepost 18.

(COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. ) - Salem News Traffic Report Late night Interstate 5 motorists should expect long delays between Cottage Grove and Sutherlin on Tuesday, as an oversized load carrying a massive dam gate is transported through the area.

Between 10:45 p.m. and midnight, northbound traffic may be delayed up to 45 minutes while southbound traffic will be delayed approximately 30 minutes.

Starfish Along Oregon Coast Headed for Extinction

Today, an estimated 30-50 percent of the Oregon populations of this sea star species in the intertidal zone have the disease.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - ochre sea star Just in the past two weeks, the incidence of sea star wasting syndrome has exploded along the Oregon Coast and created an epidemic of historic magnitude, one that threatens to decimate the entire population of purple ochre sea stars.

The ochre sea star, which is the species most heavily affected by the disease in the intertidal zone, may be headed toward localized extinction in Oregon, according to researchers at Oregon State University who have been monitoring the outbreak. As a “keystone” predator, its loss could disrupt the entire marine intertidal ecosystem.

Man Sexually Assaults Teen Girl in SE Salem Home

The man was described as small, about 5'5, thin build, shoulder length hair pulled back into a pony tail.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Marion County Sheriff's department The Marion County Sheriff's department is asking for the public's help in locating a man suspected of breaking into a southeast Salem home and sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Sheriff's spokesman Sergeant Chris Baldridge says the incident happened at a residence located on State Street SE.
