Guard Helicopter Crews Return From War

Some of the Guard helicopter crews served with the Marines during operations in Afghanistan

(Salem) - Captain Jerry Brennan a former U.S. Marine It`s been a long six-months for members of Oregon National Guard who returned home from the war in Afghanistan Thursday. Pilots and crews from the 1042nd Medical Company rolled onto familiar ground in a military bus and were greeted by smiling faces at the Guard`s Salem air base.

Oregon Youth Challenge Receives Top Honor Wednesday

(Washington D.C.) - training obstacle course The Oregon National Guard Youth Challenge Program (OYCP) received honors Wednesday for having the best post-residential mentorship program of more than thirty
similar programs nationwide. In addition, it was recently named one of the top three programs of its kind in the nation for 2005 – an honor it has received for four out of the past five years.

Two cadets, Romiro Villgomez of Salem and Alex Soeffker of Medford, joined Oregon Congresswoman Darlene Hooley and Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Rees, Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard, in receiving the honors at the Senate
Dirkson Building in Washington D.C.

Return of The Oregon Guard`s 1042nd Helicopter Company Now Delayed Until Sunday

After six-months in the Afghanistan War theatre, the Oregon soldiers continue to experience delays in their last leg of the journey home.

(Salem) - The arrival of the men, women and equipment of the 1042nd "Air Ambulance" Medical Company of the Oregon Army National Guard is tentatively scheuled
for Sunday, February 26th around 10:30 AM at the Portland Air National Guard Base near the AMC Hangar.

This unit has been deployed in dangerous war locations many times under the Bush administration due to what guard officials call "the critical need of medevac capability."

UPDATE: Salem Based Citizen Soldiers Return Delayed

(Salem) - Oregon Guard Blackhawk helicopter Due to transport issues with the unit's airframes, the arrival of the 1042nd Medical Company, (Air Ambulance) based out of Salem will be delayed.

The unit was expected to arrive in Portland this evening and now will arrive sometime towards the end of the week, a definite date and time is not yet available. The more than 30 members expected to return have been serving a six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Live Military Round Recovered in Woodburn

(Woodburn) - Photo Courtesy: Oregon Military Department Explosive technicians from Oregon State Police and the Oregon National Guard safely removed a live artillery projectile from the backyard of a Woodburn residence Thursday. The projectile was determined to be live by the homeowner's nephew who just completed explosive ordinance disposal training in preparation for deployment to Iraq.

The official demobilization ceremony for the members of A Co., 249th Aviation, Oregon Army National Guard will be held Tuesday, at 2:00 PM at the Army Aviation Support Facility located at 1921 Turner Road SE, Salem.

(Salem) - OH-58 Helicopter like those used by Oregon`s Air Guard The Oregon Army National Guard launched an OH-58 Kiowa helicopter shortly after 9:00 AM Chirstmas morning from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem to assist in the search for a woman missing since approximately 4:00 AM December 24th.
