Decorated Iraq War Officer Named Deputy to the Inspector for the Oregon National Guard

"Major Hildebrandt led over 130 soldiers in combat in Baghdad, Iraq during some of the fiercest fighting of the conflict."<.I>

(SALEM) - Major Scott Hildebrandt and his family The Oregon Military Department has announced the promotion of Captain Scott Hildebrandt to the rank of Major and his selection as the Deputy to the Inspector General for the Oregon National Guard.

Hildebrandt has had a long career with the military, starting with his enlistment into the U.S. Army in 1988.

Upon his release he joined the National Guard and served in Pendleton and Baker City while attending Eastern Oregon University.

(ULAANBATAAR, Mongolia) - Oregon National Guard troops in Mongolia Oregon National Guard Soldiers have been participating in United Nations peacekeeping training over the past two weeks for Khaan Quest 2006 in Mongolia. The Oregon Guard public affairs division sent photographers along to document the training and they in turn have been sending the images to Salem-News.com.

Images From Oregon Guard Mission in Mongolia

Specialist April Dustin with the Oregon National Guard took these photos of Oregon soldiers on a training mission in Mongolia called Khan Quest 2006.

(MONGOLIA) - Specialist Dugald Campbell of Corvallis Oregon Army National Guard Soldiers from B Company, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry, based out of Corvallis, have been participating in United Nations peacekeeping training for the last two weeks for Khaan Quest 2006 in Mongolia.

These photos feature Soldiers from our area training in Distribution Site procedures, in which they practice securing a site to distribute food items to crowd of villagers.

Opening Ceremony Showcases Multi-National Troops and Mongolian Culture

The Oregon Army National Guard unit participating in Khaan Quest 2006 is B Company, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry, based out of Corvallis.

(ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia) - Shots of military exercise The President of Mongolia and Commander-in-Chief of the Mongolian Armed Forces officially kicked off Khaan Quest 2006, a two-week United Nations peacekeeping exercise involving Oregon troops.

A vast array of nations were represented at the opening ceremony including the participating field exercise military units from the Oregon National Guard and Alaska National Guard, along with troops from Mongolia, Bangladesh, India, Fiji, Tonga and Thailand.

Oregon National Guard Arrives in Mongolia for United Nations Training

Oregon Soldiers Head to Mongolia for Training Exercise

The mission is considered a peacekeeping training exercise.

(SALEM) - Mongolian troops More than 90 Oregon Army National Guard Soldiers, in B Company 2nd Battalion 162nd Infantry, from Corvallis and Eugene, will travel to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia for three weeks in August during the Khaan Quest IV 2006 training exercise to help train members of the Mongolian Armed Forces in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

B Company, 2-162 Inf. Bn. will deploy two infantry platoons, five trainers, tactical operations personnel, and several medics to Mongolia to participate in Khaan Quest IV, a platoon level, peace support operations training exercise sponsored by the Mongolian Armed Forces and U.S. Pacific Command.

Oregon Guard Launches Helicopter to Aid Search for Missing Man (UPDATED)

Launching repeatedly to search for the missing man, guard crews say they will probably resume the search Monday.

(SALEM) - The Oregon National Guard launched a UH-60 Blackhawk around 9:00 AM from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem today to assist the search for a man who has gone missing in Linn County.

The crew brought the helicopter back to the AASF in Salem late in the morning, then launched again to resume the search.

Oregon Guard Launches From Salem to Search for Missing Female Hiker

A female hiker in the Roseburg area has been missing for over 48-hours.

(SALEM) - OH-58 Kiowa helicopter The 1042nd Medical Air Ambulance Company - Army National Guard dispatched an OH-58 helicopter at approximately 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon.

A Guard spokesman says the crew is on a search and rescue mission, six miles east of Roseburg, for a missing 25-year-old female hiker.

Sources report that she has been missing for 48 hours now, and her condition is unknown.

Oregon National Guard Invites Medical Providers to Open House

(SALEM) - The Oregon National Guard will host an open house for area medical and dental providers July 14th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Anderson Readiness Center in Salem.

In recent years, thousands of Oregon National Guard members have answered the call in our local communities and around the world. Each time these soldiers deploy they require medical and dental examinations.

The medical staff of the Oregon National Guard will welcome local area medical and dental professionals at the ARC and answer questions about they can care for the soldiers and support the military community through their profession.

234 Army Band to Give Free Concert in Salem

The 234 is lead by Unit Commander/Bandmaster Chief Warrant Officer James Powell of Oregon City and First Sergeant James Langford of Salem.

(SALEM) - "Oregon's Own" 234 Army Band will perform a free concert at Salem's Historic Elsinore Theatre, located at 170 High St SE, on Sunday July 16th at 3:00 PM.

The Salem concert is the first in a series of 10 performed as a tribute to Oregon Communities for their support of the Oregon Army and Air National Guard.

The series will be performed over the next three summers in several communities throughout Oregon and will feature music that runs gamut of musical genres from Marches, Classic Concert Band, Big Band Jazz and Rock & Roll.
