(PORTLAND, Ore.) - William Moyers I constantly browse through any kind of reading material to search for articles referring to marijuana. I found a real corker in the Portland Tribune June 24, 2014 titled Talk Straight to Your Kids About Pot.

I was astonished to see that it was written by William Moyers. I am well acquainted with Bill Moyers and wondered if this was the same guy. It turns out, he is the eldest son of “the” Bill Moyers.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - BBQ Food Safety Just in time for the peak of grilling season, results of a new study show that most consumers need to improve food handling and preparation practices in their own kitchen to help minimize the chances of foodborne illness.

The study, conducted by University of California, Davis, emphasizes the need for increased food safety education for consumers and contains some surprising results based on observation of meals prepared at home.

Salem Area Residents Preparing Now for Summertime Heat

The rest of the week including Independence Day, temperatures will range from the mid to upper 80’s, to lower 70’s.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Capitol Fountains It’s getting warmer in Oregon! The National Weather Service says on Tuesday in Salem and the mid-Willamette Valley the high temperatures in most cities will reach well into the 90’s.

The rest of the week including Independence Day, temperatures will range from the mid to upper 80’s, to lower 70’s with the chance of showers returning to the valley on Sunday. Come Monday however, the sun should be back with temperatures in the lower 80's.

Workers Face Health Risk as Temperatures in Oregon Begin to Climb

From 2009 through 2013, 33 people received benefits through Oregon's workers' compensation system for heat-related illnesses.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Jobs Hot Weather Landscaping, construction, and agriculture are some of the outdoor jobs that can expose workers to dangerous high heat.

Labor-intensive activities in hot weather can raise body temperatures beyond the level that normally can be cooled by sweating and may lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Oregon Planned Parenthood Slams High Court`s Ruling on Birth Control

After decades of discriminatory coverage by insurance companies, the birth control benefit requires all insurance policies to cover birth control with no out-of-pocket cost to women.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Planned Parenthood Planned Parenthood organizations in Oregon condemned Monday's ruling by the Supreme Court that some for-profit private corporations, such as the arts and crafts chain Hobby Lobby, can deny coverage of birth control to their employees, for no reason other than the personal religious beliefs of the corporation's owners.

Stacy M. Cross, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette, said: "Today, the Supreme Court ruled against Oregon women and families, giving bosses the right to discriminate against women.

Oregon Workplace Safety Grant Applications Begin July 1

Applicants may apply for up to $40,000 per grant project without a requirement.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - oregon workforce Grant funding will be available starting July 1 to develop innovative workplace safety and health training programs.

Oregon OSHA, a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, will sponsor projects that may range from a unique mobile app to an online educational game that engages workers. The grants will focus on programs that target an Oregon industry or a specific work process to reduce or eliminate hazards.

1 in 10 Adults Die Due to Excessive Alcohol Use

Excessive drinking includes binge drinking -- 4 or more drinks on an occasion for women -- 5 or more drinks on an occasion for men.

(WASHINGTON, D.C. ) - Excessive Alcohol Use Excessive alcohol use accounts for one in 10 deaths among working-age adults ages 20-64 years in the United States, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published Friday in Preventing Chronic Disease.

Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths per year from 2006 to 2010, and shortened the lives of those who died by about 30 years.

Marijuana Regulation Will Qualify for Oregon`s November Ballot

New Approach Oregon turned in at least 145,710 signatures today, more than enough to qualify

(SALEM, Ore.) - Anthony Johnson The New Approach Oregon campaign turned in at least 145,710 signatures today to the Oregon Secretary of State, more than enough to qualify a measure for the ballot to regulate marijuana.

That means Oregon voters in November 2014 can vote yes to regulate, legalize and tax marijuana. The campaign has finished collecting signatures. Anthony Johnson, Liz Kaufman and the campaign team turned in the signatures on a day that coincides with the 6-month anniversary of the start of regulated sales of marijuana in Colorado.
