Holding Oregon Cops Accountable Over Criminal Profiling

Criminal profiling is the act of pulling over or stopping an individual without cause, generally based on appearance stereotypes.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A developing story in Oregon involves the dishonesty of police officers, and the judges who make the final call on their actions. When you think about it, the entire system is a conflict of interest because the traffic officers and the judges are on the same team. This creates real problems.

The issues ring back to the 1950's and 1960's when police all over the U.S. were involved in suppressing people over race, gender, economic status, and their physical appearance.

Jefferson Man Dies After Stepping in Front of Oncoming Train (VIDEO REPORT)

Officials say the railroad crossing arms were down and the lights were flashing when the man walked around them, and into the path of the oncoming train.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - police checking body A Jefferson man was struck and killed by a train in Jefferson Monday evening.

The pedestrian hit and killed by a train at the crossing on Hazel and 5th Street in Jefferson has been identified as 32-year old Alfredo Savalza of Jefferson.

Police say 7 to 10 shots were fired on Lancaster Dr NE in Salem and it probably was gang related.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Shooting scene in Salem, Oregon 12-31-09 at Lancaster AM/PM Scary moments for bystanders in Salem Thursday when a gunfight erupted on Lancaster Dr. NE at the Arco AM/PM mini mart and gas station on Lancaster and Ward Dr. NE.

A father and son in their family mini van was caught in the crossfire of the gunbattle that happened around 4:15 p.m. Thursday. It happened quickly, Artemio Mendez said. Neither he or his father were hurt, but this local man says it was no way to close out 2009.

Escaped Work Center Inmate Arrested by Police

Reports have been submitted to the Marion County District Attorney's Office and they will determine if Escape charges will be filed against Morganstern.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Derik Morganstern A jail inmate who fled from a Marion County work crew was located and arrested Tuesday, according to Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

She says arrested Derik Morganstern around 2:40 p.m. after they received a call indicating he was seen walking on Lancaster Drive NE.

Work Center Inmate Walks Away From Work Crew

Morganstern was serving a 182 day sentence on a Burglary II charge out of Marion County.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Derik Morganstern A Marion County Work Center inmate walked away from a work crew at the Oregon State Fairgrounds Monday at approximately 10:20 a.m.

At 10:00 am, the work crew leader directed 21-year old inmate Derik Morganstern and another inmate to pick up trash in the 4-H barn, according to Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Counterclockwise from top left: Harlan Cole, Matthew Coulter and Richard Tyler Marion County Sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 2800 block of Lancaster Drive NE at 3:42 a.m. this morning, where they made contact with several people having a party in an apartment.

Lieutenant Sheila Lorance with the Sheriff's Office, says that as deputies were talking to people, they located a male subject inside the residence who had a large gash on the back of his head and was bleeding heavily.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Crash on Hazelgreen Road in Marion County, Ore. 12-22-09 Marion County deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash Monday night just before 8:30 p.m. in the 7900 block of Hazelgreen Road NE.

According to witnesses and the Marion County Crash Team, a silver 4-door 2009 Kia was traveling westbound on Hazelgreen Road NE when it left the roadway.

(SALEM, Ore.) - lawenforcement for youth Law Enforcement for Youth is pleased to announce that the 2009 holiday Shop with a Cop was a huge success. This years program held from 9:00am to noon on Decemeber 12th at the South Salem Walmrt was able to serve 401 children.

107 law enforcement officials from numerous agencies including the Marion County Shiriff's Office, Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Corrections and more.
