El Toro Marines Exposed to Radiation

Marines who worked in a radiation contaminated portion of a hangar at former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro were exposed to Radium 226. No action was taken to notify any Marine veteran who worked in the hangar.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Salem-News.com Marines were exposed to radiation in a huge maintenance hangar at former Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, California. The number of Marines who worked in the portion of the hangar contaminated with Radium 226 (Ra 226) is unknown. The hangar was constructed in 1944 and continued to support operations until the base closed in 1999.

Radiation contaminant from a Ra 226 paint room was found during a radiological survey of the hangar by a Navy contractor.

The legislation that would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide health care to servicemembers, veterans, and their family members who have experienced adverse health effects as a result of exposure to well water contaminated by human carcinogens at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Railroad History Recalled at Antique Powerland Great Oregon Steam-Up

The former engineer became a very active member of the Willow Creek Railroad at Antique Powerland in Brooks because he needed a place to run the model engines he built while living in Napa Valley.

"I was lucky to get on after high school." Jenkins started working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1951 as a fireman after graduating from high school in San Francisco: "It was the first big job I ever had."

Law Firm Pursuing El Toro Injuries and Deaths

A Long Beach law firm is investigating injuries and deaths connected with former MCAS El Toro.

(LONG BEACH, Calif.) - Looking through a cyclone fence at what was once a prominent Marine base: A Camp Lejeune lawsuit filed this week for injuries from exposure to trichloroethylene (TCE) and other organic solvents and a growing list of injuries linked to organic exposure from Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, California have one Long Beach law firm actively pursuing clients injured at El Toro.

Michael Gates, attorney with Carroll, Kelly, Trotter, Franzen & McKenna, 111 W. Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach, California, said his firm “has been actively investigating [El Toro] for a few months and are eager to hear from injured parties. We want everyone and anyone with serious injuries to contact us.”

17 Male Breast Cancer Victims Have Ties to Camp Lejeune Marine Base

Veterans with rare cancer or tumors identify Camp Lejeune water as the source of their illnesses.

(CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C.) - Water near Camp Lejeune The AP reported Wednesday that scientists studying the water at the base were "startled" after learning that 11 men with breast cancer and ties to the North Carolina base were identified over the last two years.

Over the course of the next week, 6 more men with breast cancer who were aboard Camp Lejeune were discovered.

Operation Khanjar: Obama Administration Sends in Marines to Increase the Fight in Afghanistan

After several years of war with too few troops and too little national commitment, Marines are taking care of business in Afghanistan.

(HELMAND, Afghanistan) - Leaflets distributed over Helmand Province 4000 Marines landed in Afghanistan a few days ago and officials report that Operation Khanjar or Strike of the Sword is in full swing.

Marines from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade accompanied by around 650 Afghan soldiers, are part of Operation Khanjar, staged on the Helmand River.

Marine Spouse Battles Navy Over Contamination at Naval Base in Japan

Shelly Parulis, wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant, is engaged in a running battle with the Navy over dioxin and other toxins at NAF Atsugi, Japan.

(ATSUGI, Japan) - NAF Atsugi logo No one assigned to Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, the home of Carrier Air Wing 5, would have suspected that duty in Japan could exposed them to toxic chemicals, including deadly dioxin, the carcinogen infamously associated with Agent Orange.

Shelly Parulis, a spouse of a retired Marine Master Sergeant who was stationed at Atsugi from 1995 to 1998, and her family suffered the results of toxic exposure and leads the effort to obtain compensation and health benefits for Atsugi veterans, dependents ad civilian workers.

Lawsuit Will Be Filed Over Camp Lejeune Water Contamination

The lawsuit will allege that regulations in place as early as 1963 prohibiting the contamination were not followed.

(WINSTON/SALEM, N.C.) - Overview of the Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The law offices of Anderson Pangia & Associates, PLLC (offices in Washington, D.C. and Winston Salem, North Carolina) and Smorto, Persio, Webb & McGill (of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania), will file on Monday July 6th a lawsuit arising from the toxic drinking water contamination at Camp Lejeune.

Many scientists have called the drinking water contamination at Camp Lejeune the worst in the nation's history. The contaminated drinking water was consumed by an estimated one million people. The lawsuit will allege that exposure to the toxins caused numerous health problems including cancers, reproductive disorders and birth defects, among other maladies.
