Knife Wielding Bicycle Rider Towing Trailer Arrested in Keizer

Police say the theft of a rototiller turned into a menacing and armed robbery case.

(KEIZER) - Joseph Cutter, rototiller theft suspect Keizer Police Officers responded to the True Value Hardware store on River Road N Thursday afternoon just before 4:00 PM on a reported theft of a Rototiller. Employees told the police that it had just occurred, and that a citizen was chasing the suspect who had loaded the stolen tiller on a bicycle trailer and was pulling it away.

The thief with the rototiller was chased into the parking lot of Safeway located in the 4900 block of River Road N where he was caught by the citizen. That's when a fight ensued as the citizen attempted to detain the suspect.

UPDATED: Fire Guts Garage, Cars, Motorcycles in Keizer

Damage to the home and the vehicle's was estimated at $150,000.

(KEIZER) - fire investigation Units of the Keizer Fire District responded to the report of a house fire shortly after 2:30 AM on Thursday.

First arriving units reported seeing a large amount of fire coming from the garage and two cars parked in the driveway also burning.

The fire was in a single family residence located at 3723 Shady Ct. NE. The home is owned by Donna M. Salata who resides in the residence with Ed McLaughlin.

Firefighters reported hearing three explosions while fighting the blaze.

Salem Man Arrested in Keizer Samurai Sword Attack

Keizer police have been looking for the samurai sword stabbing assailant since last summer.

(SALEM) - Ernesto S. Sandoval A Salem man has been arrested in connection to an attack that involved a samurai sword that injured a Keizer man last year.

The attack occurred July 4th, at about 2:00 AM, when 26-year old Jason Maghan was involved in a fight at a bar in Salem and was returning to his residence in the 6600 block of Amy Lane NE in Keizer.

Salem DMV Employee Arrested for Allegedly Going to Customer`s Home Looking for Sex

A DMV spokesperson says the employee was fired in December.

(SALEM) - Salem-News.com A former Salem DMV employee has been arrested for allegedly going to a customers home looking for sex.

Keizer police say 54-year-old William Carnegie was arrested in January after months of investigation. They say that Carnegie used the woman’s personal information after helping her renew her driver’s license last June.

He allegedly went to the victim's home with a cashier’s check saying the woman had overpaid, and made sexual advances towards the woman.

Carnegie is facing misdemeanor official misconduct charges.

Salem Man Flees Authorities in Stolen Vehicle

Police found a loaded gun, and crystal methamphetamine inside the car.

(KEIZER) - man in jail Friday morning at 12:28 AM, Officer Olafson of the Keizer Police Department observed a suspicious vehicle driving in the neighborhoods in North Keizer.

Officer Olafson initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for a traffic infraction and attempted to make contact with the driver.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the vehicle sped off and a pursuit was initiated.

Keizer Police Holding Free Class on Oregon Driving Laws

The deadline to register is Wednesday, February 14th.

(KEIZER) - Keizer police department The Keizer Police Department will be presenting a free community presentation on Oregon traffic laws, including information on obtaining an Oregon Driver’s License, as part of the educational component to seek voluntary compliance in reducing dangerous driving behavior and motor vehicle crashes.

The class will cover the basic rules of the road, the most commonly observed traffic violations, the most dangerous driving behaviors and tips on how to prepare for the licensing test.

Chuck Lee Files For School Board; Resigns From Keizer City Council

Lee is a two-term city councilor in Keizer and President of Blanchet Catholic School in Salem.

(KEIZER) - School board meeting Chuck Lee, Keizer City Councilor and President of Blanchet Catholic School, filed Monday for the Zone 6 Director position for the Salem-Keizer School Board, which will be up for election on May 15th.

Lee also submitted his resignation to the Keizer City Council after six years of service.

If elected, Lee would replace Mike Basinger, who has decided not to run for re-election.

Funeral services for PFC Ryan J. Hill of Keizer will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Peoples Church, 4500 Lancaster Drive NE in Salem.

(SALEM) - flag at half staff Governor Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff on Friday, in memory of Private First Class Ryan J. Hill of Keizer.

Hill, 20, died January 20th in Baghdad, Iraq.

He was assigned to the Army’s 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt Germany

PFC Ryan Hill will Return Home to Oregon Wednesday

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Peoples Church, 4500 Lancaster Drive NE in Salem.

(SALEM) - PFC Ryan J. Hill from Keizer PFC Ryan J. Hill from Keizer who lost his life in an IED blast in Iraq on January 20th will be returned to Oregon on Wednesday between 11:15 AM and 11:30 AM.

From Portland, there will be a procession from Portland to the AAsum-Dufour Funeral Home in Albany.

The family of PFC Hill would welcome citizens to be present along the route to show their support and pay respects for one of Oregon's Fallen Soldiers.

Pfc. Ryan J. Hill becomes the 49th soldier with Oregon ties to have died in the Iraq war.

(SALEM) - Army Pfc. Ryan J. Hill A memorial service for twenty-year-old Army Pfc. Ryan J. Hill, of Keizer was killed in Baghdad Saturday has been tentatively set for Feb. 2nd.

Hill died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee.
