(SALEM) - Salem-News.com has experienced steady growth over its first two years, but nobody expected the site to zoom to the top almost overnight, which is exactly what happened when Salem-News.com was added to the Google News feed in the middle of June.

Google gathers news from 4,500 news organizations around the world. The stories are supplied on "Google News" which can be broken down into world, national, etc. Salem-News.com has hit the cover or top of the news in the domestic section three times in the last two weeks, driving all kinds of national and world web visitors to Salem, Oregon to get their top national stories.

As a result of Google’s acceptance, Salem-News.com has become a news organization that is constantly billed next to stories from CNN and the BBC, as well as NW news organizations like local newspapers and Portland TV stations.

Wyden Blocks Telecom Legislation Over Ineffective Net Neutrality Provision

Senator wants legislation to include stronger safeguards for consumers to prevent discrimination in Internet access and usage.

Craigslist Adds Salem Section

(SALEM) - Craig Newmark, Founder of Craigslist Entries started appearing Sunday in the new Salem Oregon section of the internationally popular online classified ads service, craigslist.org. Prior to the addition of salem.craigslist.org, Salem residents had to place ads under the section for the nearest listed city, Portland, and then put 'Salem' in the specific location field of the ad.

State Gets Tough on SPAM

The state's new SPAM filtering system saves Oregon taxpayers over two million dollars a year.

(SALEM) - person looking at computer screen If you think SPAM e-mail is bad on your home computer, try multiplying it by nearly 38,000. That`s the number of e-mail addresses for State of Oregon employees.

While you can`t totally get rid of SPAM, the Department of Administrative Services is taking a proactive approach to minimize the problem.

The Network Operations Center, which runs the state`s central e-mail hub, has set up a SPAM filtering system that does an effective job for state agencies.

Salem Police Department Fraud Tip-of-the-Week

(Salem) - Myspace Last week, a woman in Salem became the most recent victim of an internet romance scam.
Salem Police Detective Paul Henninger says the suspect contacted the victim through the victim's personal web site with "MySpace.com."
He said the suspect represented himself as a blond hair, blue eyed model from the United States who was visiting his sick mother in Lagos, Nigeria...
