Smokeless `E-Cigarettes` Raise New Health Concerns (AUDIO)

Oregon’s Ban has National Implications.

(SALEM, Ore. ONS) - Oregon is the first state to ban the sale of so-called electronic cigarettes, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will soon be in court to fight the same battle nationally.

The battery-operated tube looks like a real paper-and-tobacco cigarette, but contains nicotine and flavors that can be inhaled without producing smoke. The FDA wants to regulate them as drug devices.

US Government Site Hacked - Now Serving Up Spam

The offending pages are still readily available more than 12 hours after reporting.

(SALEM, Ore.) - NIST hosted spam site I regularly get spam but this morning I got one that gained my attention. The link was to a US Government Website. I won't give the full links in text form but it was on http://collaborate.nist.gov/ which seems to be some sort of invitation only collaboration / wiki site.

Now more than 12 hours later I have still not had another email and the offending pages are still readily available.

Radio Free Asia Named Broadcaster of the Year at 2009 New York Festivals

RFA Reporters, Services Take Record 7 Awards.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Libby Liu, President of Radio Free Asia Today, Radio Free Asia was named Broadcaster of the Year by the New York Festivals for winning the largest number of awards among participating broadcasters. Four of Radio Free Asia’s nine language services won top honors for excellence in journalism in the international competition, which included three gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Attorney General John Kroger Attorney General John Kroger announced that last night the Legislature approved three of his highest priorities: a commission to reform and improve Oregon’s drug treatment and prevention programs and the creation of environmental crimes and civil rights enforcement units.

The creation of the environmental crimes and civil rights units was paid for by shifting resources from lower priorities within the Department of Justice’s budget.

25 people were recently added to the list of those killed as a result of phone texting.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Woman texting What are the electronic manufacturers and marketing guru's trying to do to our fair society? Weren't things bad enough before texting became the unexplainable phenomena that it is?

I was driving down the freeway last week in Portland and when I looked at the BMW in the lane to my immediate right, I saw that the driver was busy texting away without an eye on the road. I'm sure this driver has no ill will toward the world, but if he hit somebody and killed them, would it be any different from a DUII?
