Why Are Thai Authorities Unjust with Rohingyas?

The Rohingya are mostly stateless Muslims from Myanmar, also known as Burma.

(FRANKFURT Burma Times) - Mohamed Ibrahim Thai authorities have sent around 1,300 Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar, a top official said on Thursday.

Thai authorities began deporting the Rohingya in September through a border checkpoint in the province of Ranong, national immigration chief Lieutenant General PharnuKerdlarpphon told AFP.

Thailand Deported Around 1,300 Rohingya Refugees Back to Myanmar

Many of those who arrived in Thai waters were locked up in overcrowded immigration prisons.

(RANGOON World Bulletin) - Rohingya Muslim immigrants gather at the Immigration Detention Center in Kanchanaburi province, Thailand. About 1,300 Rohingya people who were detained in immigration detention centres and shelters across Thailand since January last year were deported to Burma three months ago.

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau commissioner Pharnu Kerdlarpphon said that the Rohingya people were deported with the cooperation of Thai and Burmese authorities.
