Albany Police Make Arrest in Arson Investigation

The man was arrested two separate times over nine local arson fires.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Albany Police arrested 74-year-old Donald George Rice, an Albany area transient, in connection with a number of recent fires Tuesday at approximately 9:20 a.m.

Keizer Firefighters Join Stairclimb Event for Fifth Year

The stair climb takes place each year at the Columbia Center Building in Seattle, Washington. At 788 feet in height, it is the tallest building in Seattle and the second tallest building west of the Mississippi river.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - A team of twelve Firefighters from the Keizer Fire District will travel to Seattle, Washington on Sunday, March 8, 2009 to participate in the 18th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb.

Fire District Spokesman Jim Trett, says this event, of 1,500 entrants from around the globe, is the largest individual firefighter competition in the world and is a fund raising event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

It's estimated that the man fell approximately 35 feet.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a report of a fallen climber on Rocky Butte today at about 4:00 p.m.

Lt. Allen Oswalt with Portland Fire, says firefighters arrived within a few minutes but had trouble getting an exact location from the caller.

"Rocky Butte has many trails and most are unmarked so locating an injured person is always a challenge. After about 30 minutes firefighters located the victim and began treating his injuries."

Three Pets Die in Salem House Fire

The Salem Fire Investigator stated there were an adequate number of working smoke detectors throughout the home.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem firefighters responded to a two-alarm house fire late Monday morning. The first alarm was dispatched at 10:30 a.m. to 4520 Drake Court NE.

Slippery Roads In SW Portland Leaves Motorist in Peril (PHOTOS)

Slippery driving left a car balanced over the edge of a 60-foot drop.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - One Portland motorist found out how treacherous the roads can be in the hills of SW Portland Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.

Lt. Allen Oswalt with Portland Fire, says with the roads covered with a blanket of wet, slippery snow caused some tense moments for this driver.

"As he was carefully negotiating the curves and hills of SW Humphrey Boulevard, he slowed for the upcoming corner and slid off the side of the road," Oswalt said.

Portland Officer Saves Woman During Early Morning House Fire

The early morning house fire sent 8 to local hospitals.‏

(PORTLAND, Ore) - Fire Investigators from Portland Fire & Rescue have determined that the cause of a morning house fire was ashes from a fireplace disposed of improperly.

"It appears that one of the occupants put ashes from the fireplace in a cardboard box and left the box in the living room," Lt. Allen Oswalt with Portland Fire said.

This fire started this morning at about 6:20 AM. As Portland Firefighters were responding, crews reported a column of smoke in the area from more than a half mile away from the scene at 11341 SE Division St.

Keizer Fire District Holds Annual Awards Reception‏ (PHOTOS)

A special guest shared the history of the beginnings of emergency medicine in the fire service and the role that the television series "Emergency!" played in that history.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - The Keizer Fire District held its annual Firefighter Reception on Monday, January 19th 2009. Special guest Randolph Mantooth of the television show "Emergency!" delivered the keynote address. The ceremony introduced new recruits, swearing in of new Firefighters by Oregon State Fire Marshal Randy Simpson and the presentation of the District's service awards.

Mantooth is widely recognized for his portrayal of Los Angeles County Firefighter/Paramedic Johnny Gage in the popular 1970's era NBC Universal series "Emergency!"

Tangent Fire Crews Rescue Waterlogged Motorist

A firefighter said the man was lucky to have his cell phone, as the outside temperature was around 37 degrees.

(TANGENT, Ore.) - Tangent firefighters were called out to a report of a car in the water on Tangent Drive near Country Road, just west of Tangent Oregon tonight.

Dennis Weis with the Tangent Fire Department, says the call came through at 9:35 PM after the motorist, stuck in the half-submerged vehicle, was able to get a cell phone connection.

"The road was flooded and he lost sight of the road and ended up in the ditch about 150 yards from where he left the dry/wet road," Weis said.

Keizer Fire Has Busiest 24 Hours in its History

Fire Chief Jeff Cowan noted that despite the heavy volume of calls, Keizer Fire District personnel and equipment were able to handle all of their calls for service with one exception, where an ambulance from Salem was needed.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer's Fire District experienced its busiest day for a 24-hour period between 7:00 AM. on December 21st and 7:00 AM on December 22nd, 2008.

The Keizer Fire District's Spokesman Jim Trett, says crews responded to a total of 37 calls for service during the period.

"The District then broke that record between December 22nd and December 23rd during the same time frame when they responded to 39 calls for service," Trett said.

Gasoline Truck Driver Dies in Fiery Crash Near Wilsonville (PHOTOS)

Driver dies in commercial truck crash and fire on Interstate 5 near Wilsonville‏.

(WILSONVILLE, Ore.) - Police responded to an explosion near Interstate 5 in the south Wilsonville area early this morning at 2:45 AM, involving a fuel laden semi truck. They say the driver, 56-year old William Neil Adams of Scappoose, Oregon, died in the crash and ensuing fire.
