Motorcyclist Arrested After Oregon Police Pursuit

Police say the rider admitted his speed was near 150 mph during the incident, said he likes to drive fast and did not want to get another speeding ticket.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Motorcycle chase in Oregon 8-7-07 A Seattle, Washington man was arrested on several charges Tuesday morning in the Roseburg area after multiple attempts to elude Oregon State Police troopers on Interstate 5 southbound from the Eugene area.

OSP Spokesman Lt. Greg Hastings says an OSP trooper tackled the man off his motorcycle before he could flee again after he had mistakenly taken a dead-end gravel road in southeast Roseburg.

Eugene, Oregon Student Wins AAA Travel Challenge

The AAA Travel High School Challenge tests students’ knowledge of U.S. and world geography with a focus on travel and tourism.

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - aaa travel winner Samuel Brandt, a 10th grade student at South Eugene High School in Eugene, Ore. used his considerable geography “smarts” on Monday – triumphing over an initial field of nearly 25,000 students – to earn a $20,000 college scholarship and the title of 2007 AAA Travel High School Challenge Champion.

Brandt won over a highly competitive field of students, correctly answering the following question during a nerve-wracking, single-elimination competition on stage at Universal Studios: ”Dubrovnik is a popular tourist destination in which country?” Answer: Croatia.

Eugene to Get 14.8 Million for Emerald Express Expansion

The extension will serve an anticipated 3,700 daily passengers when it is scheduled to open in 2010.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Emerald Express Logo Eugene will receive $14.8 million in funding one-year ahead of schedule for the Emerald Express expansion, Oregon Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden said Friday.

The Senators are top proponents for funding the project, which will create a new hybrid-electric bus line between Eugene and Springfield.

The Pioneer Parkway Emerald EmX BRT project is a proposed 7.8-mile, $37 million extension of the Franklin Corridor BRT, which runs between Eugene and Springfield.

University of Oregon Business Complex Closed after Bomb Threat

The business complex will reopen at 7:00 AM on Tuesday.

(EUGENE) - police lights photo The University of Oregon has canceled all of Monday’s classes and activities in the Lillis Business Complex after receiving a bomb threat Saturday.

On Saturday, a student reported finding a note written on a bathroom wall that said an explosive device would be detonated Monday.

Eugene police searched the building, and no device was found.

Eugene Police Seeking Bank Robbery Suspect

The suspect was described as a white male, 35 to 40 years old, standing roughly 6’2” and having a slender to medium build.

Expert on Suicide Bombing Will Talk at University of Oregon

(EUGENE) - university of oregon Faisal Devji, author of "Landscapes of the Jihad: Militancy, Morality, Modernity," will talk about suicide bombing during a free public lecture at the University of Oregon on Friday.

The talk, "Dying on Principle: The Claims and Renunciations of Suicide Bombing," will begin at 4:00 PM, in Room 211, Lillis Business Complex, 955 E. 13th Ave.

Devji teaches history at the New School for Social Research, a private institution in New York City.

Survey: University of Oregon Grad Programs Among Nation`s Best

U.S. News & World Report names special education program no. 3 in the country.

(EUGENE) - u of o campus University of Oregon graduate programs are among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2008 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools.

The annual survey, available at newsstands now, ranks the College of Education's graduate program in special education as third best in the country.

Overall, the College of Education is ranked no. 12, up from no. 15 a year ago, placing it in the top five percent of all ranked schools.
