Police Plan DUII Saturation Patrols

The annual Newport Seafood and Wine Festival is being held in Newport during the weekend, and Highway 20 has historically had a lot of traffic.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - On Friday, February 20, 2009, and Saturday, February 21, 2009, the Benton County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Oregon State Police, will participate in a DUII saturation patrol.

The focus will be on Highway 20, between Corvallis and the Lincoln County line.

Police Release Preliminary Post-New Year`s Holiday Statistics‏

Oregon State Police troopers noted five fatal crashes and 85 DUII drivers arrests during this year's holiday period,

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Preliminary information gathered by Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation, reflect an increase in fatalities during the 102-hour New Year's holiday period between 6:00 PM, Wednesday, December 31st, 2008, and 11:59 PM, Sunday, January 4th, 2009.

ODOT's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) reports information received from Oregon law enforcement agencies indicates 7 people were killed in five separate fatal crashes.

This was an increase in last year's holiday period when five people died in four separate crashes. During the 2007 holiday period there were four reported fatalities.

Oregon Troopers Make Over 50 DUII Arrests During New Year`s Eve

An average of more than five fatalities has happened each year over this holiday period during the last ten years.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Preliminary reporting of DUII arrests by Oregon State Police shows troopers arrested 52 DUII drivers December 31st through 8:00 AM, January 1st.

Troopers reported 81 DUII arrests during last year's 78-hour official reporting period. Updated holiday-related fatal traffic crash, DUII arrests, and other enforcement related statistics over this year's 102-hour national reporting period will be provided by Monday afternoon, January 5th.

OSP, county sheriff departments, city police agencies and ODOT continue to stress to drive safely and not impaired during the extended New Year's holiday weekend running through 11:59 PM, Sunday, January 4th.

Wife Finds Seriously Injured Husband Following Overnight DUII Crash Near Canby

Police say the man talked to his wife prior to 2:30 AM and was enroute home, after getting off work at a Canby-areas restaurant.

(CANBY, Ore.) - A Portland-area man was found seriously injured by his wife Tuesday morning in a field near a church following an alcohol-involved overnight single vehicle crash along Highway 99E north of Canby.

Oregon State Police Recruit Trooper Dessa DeForest says around 7:15 AM, a report was received of a vehicle in an open field next to the Church of the Nazarene east of Highway 99E near E. Territorial Road.

"Police and fire personnel responded to the scene and found a 1990 Jeep Cherokee with a seriously injured male driver inside about 125 feet off the highway."

Portland Man Behind Bars Over Hit & Run Crash on I-205

OSP Arrests Portland man following hit & run crossover crash on Interstate 205 north of Sunnyside Road.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon State Police troopers arrested a southeast Portland man early Saturday morning after he drove away from the scene of a traffic crash on Interstate 205 that caused another involved vehicle to cross over the center median and crash head-on with a third vehicle. Five people were injured in the two other involved vehicles.

Preliminary investigation indicates on November 21, 2008 at approximately 11:02 PM a 2003 Honda Civic driven by the suspect was southbound on Interstate 205 near milepost 14 when it rear-ended a rented 2008 Ford F150 pickup driven by 62-year old John R. Smart of Detroit, Michigan.

The impact caused the Ford pickup to lose control, spin out and drive up the center median embankment into the left northbound lane where it crashed head-on with a 2004 Nissan driven by 42-year old Kevin W. Chong of Vancouver, Washington.

Man Shoots Himself After Holding Two Boys Hostage Outside Scio

A home invasion leads to tragic times for a Scio family before ending in the death of a kidnapper.

(SCIO, Ore.) - At 2:20 AM Saturday morning, the Linn County Sheriff's Office received a report of a home invasion kidnapping at a residence on Cole School Road, north east of Scio.

The caller was a 13-year old boy who told authorities that 47-year old Ronald Alan Williams, from Marion, had entered his residence at about midnight and tied him and another boy, also 13, up with duct tape. The boys were having a sleep over.

The mother of one of the boys, 47-year old Peggy Mack, who lives at the residence, was a former girlfriend of Williams, arrived home around 2:00 AM. She convinced Williams to release the boys. After being released, Mack slipped her son a cell phone who then was able to sneak outside to call 911 for help.

Drunk Driver Crashes Into Anti-Drinking Sign in Aloha

The accident knocked out power to parts of the Aloha area, and SW Tualatin Valley Highway was closed for several hours.

(ALOHA, Ore.) - Deputies investigating the crash determined that the driver, 45-year old Maura Steele of Portland, was driving recklessly on SW TV Highway when she left the roadway.

She crashed into a "don't drink and drive" sign and then a power pole. After striking the pole she traveled approximately 300 feet before stopping her car. She was not injured in the crash.

Police Praise Oktoberfest Organizer`s Hard Work as DUII Arrests Drop

Oktoberfest was a great success, thanks to the responsible drivers who kept it safe.

(SALEM, Ore.) - DUII arrests made by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies and Mt. Angel police dropped in comparison to previous years during 2008 Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel.

Police agencies reported seven people were arrested for DUII, two of which involved individuals attending Oktoberfest activities. Last year officers reported 11 DUII arrests, ten involving people attending the event. During the 2006 Oktoberfest, officers arrested nine DUII drivers.

Oregon Labor Day Traffic Fatalities Tie With Worst Since 1988

Following notification of another fatal crash over the 78-hour Labor Day holiday extended weekend, Oregon's new count is now ten fatalities in eight fatal crashes.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon's past two major holiday weekend fatality reduction statistics was thrown into reverse during the 78-hour 2008 Labor Day Holiday extended weekend as preliminary information indicates 10 people were killed in eight separate traffic crashes between 6:00 PM, August 29th, and 11:59 PM, September 1st.

Police Say `Huffing` Contributed to Fatal Car Crash Near Jefferson

UPDATE: Investigators have determined that more likely than not Ms. Williams had inhaled Nitrous Oxide gas prior to the crash not C02 as previously reported. The investigation is continuing.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Police say 23-year old Falon Rae Williams of Albany was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus with three passengers aboard, when it left the road and crashed into a tree on Marion-Jefferson Road Monday about 5:00 PM.
