Slides Close Oregon Highway 20

Transportation officials say motorists are advised to avoid traveling through the Cascade passes today because of expectations of heavy snowfall.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Snow covered road Oregon State Police say Highway 20 is closed between Camp Sherman and Detroit due to slides in Santiam Pass area near mileposts 78 and 80. It is reported that the length of the closure is unknown at this time.

Victim Identified in Fatal Crash on Highway 22E Near Detroit

Police say the highway was well sanded at the time of the collision and excessive speed is a possible factor, but a driver who passed through the area right after the crash told shady areas were covered with black ice.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Detroit in Oregon, 1-15-08 We reported yesterday that a woman was killed in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 22E about six miles east of Detroit. The woman involved in that 2:26 PM crash has been identified as 42-year old Cynthia Lee White of Redmond.

Investigators say she was driving her 1988 Ford Mustang eastbound on Highway 22E near milepost 59 negotiating a right curve she apparently lost control and crossed the center line where the car crashed head-on with a westbound 1998 Toyota Avalon on the westbound shoulder.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Fatal crash on Oregon Highway 22e, 1-16-08 An adult female was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 22E about six miles east of Detroit. Oregon State Police Sergeant Michael Stupfel says the victim's name is withheld pending next of kin notification.

(DETROIT) - Be aware The Oregon State Police wants you to Be Aware! of multiple traffic crashes due to icy conditions in the Santiam Pass area.

OSP troopers and local emergency responders are working the area and caution motorists to be prepared for these conditions, reduce speeds, and anticipate possible delays.

At 10:10 AM the temperature recorded by ODOT's camera at US-20 MP 71.59 - 89.2 was 28 degrees with gusty winds.

Rainy Roads May Be Factor in Fatality

Tragic accidents like this one are mounting during this stormy weather

(DETROIT) - fatal accident east of Detroit At 5:15 PM Tuesday, Oregon State Police was enroute to a fatal traffic crash on Highway 22, about 14 miles east of Detroit at milepost 66.

The highway was reportedly blocked by this single vehicle accident, apparently with one fatality.

Las Vegas Man Rescued From Pacific Crest Trail After Suffering a Seizure

(DETROIT) - view of lake On Tuesday, at about 4:00 PM, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a group of hikers in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness area that one of their party, 29-year-old Ricardo Rosenbusch, had experienced a seizure and was unconscious.

Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Rau says the hikers were about four miles up from the Breitenbusch trailhead on the Pacific Coast Trail at the time.

Two members of the group, 21-year-old Daniel Harmon and 18-year-old Joseph Harmon, both of West Linn, hiked out back to their car at the trailhead and drove to Detroit to call for help.

It was not until after dark that members of the Marion County Search and Rescue teams were able to begin their ascent to where Rosenbusch was.

Salem Man Suffers Broken Neck in Kite Tube Accident on Detroit Lake

The doctor at Santiam Hospital who treated 24-year-old Jessie Howard said that he is lucky not to be paralyzed.

(DETROIT) - kitetubing Kite tubes -they look exciting and fun but after a weekend at Detroit Lake, James Howard and his son Jessie, think differently.

"These things are deadly," says James Howard, who operated the boat.

"You just don't have any control and no time to respond."

The tube lifted off the water about three or four feet, but twisted sharply, ejecting Jessie out of the tube.

"I'd been riding the tube all morning, and on the last run all of a sudden it shot me up..."

Stayton Woman Dies in Highway-22 Crash Monday

Police say they are still trying to determine what caused the car to leave the roadway, leading to the fatal crash.

(DETROIT) - fatal crash investigation A Stayton woman died Monday evening in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 22 near the west end of Detroit Lake. There other individuals in the other vehicle from Seattle, Washington were injured, one received critical injuries.
