Coast Guard Cutter Healy to Depart for Arctic West Deployment

The mission will focus on a common goal of improving ecological understanding of the Bering Sea.

(SEATTLE, Wash.) - Healy class cutter in hard ice conditions The Coast Guard cutter Healy is scheduled to depart its homeport here Wednesday for the three-month Arctic West 2009 deployment.

The Deployment supports the ongoing Bering Ecosystem Study; is a multi-year project sponsored by the National Science Foundation that studies the ecological processes of sea ice as it retreats through the Bering Sea.

Busy Weekend for Coast Guard in Pacific NW

One incident involved an overturned vessel near Coos Bay; the other rescue saw two surfers rescued near Grays Harbor.

(SEATTLE, Wash.) - Images of Coast Guard rescues by Tim King It was a busy weekend for Coast Guard rescue crews over the weekend in both Oregon and Washington. The story serves as a good reminder of how treacherous NW waters can become, and how frequently the Coast Guard is able to complete lifesaving rescues.

The Coast Guard reports rescuing a 73-year old man near Coos Bay, Oregoln, Sunday. A Coast Guard watchstander at the Coos Bay lookout tower spotted a vessel overturned and a man in the water around 2:15 p.m.

Sailboat Runs Aground on Oregon Coast (PHOTOS)

There is approximately 50 gallons of fuel still onboard the sailing vessel.

(SEATTLE) - The Coast Guard will issue an Administrative Order to the owner of the 40-foot sailing vessel Gwalchavad that ran aground on Sand Island, Oregon, January 13th. The order directs the owner to remove the vessel.

The Gwalchavad was discovered aground Thursday by personnel from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Washington.

The Coast Guard says the owner of the vessel declined Coast Guard assistance and stated he would find an alternate way to remove the vessel.

Coast Guard Airlifts Crewman 150 Miles Offshore (VIDEO)

The Coast Guard conducted a medevac of a crewmember off the 623-foot container ship Dapenghai 150 miles west from the entrance of the Columbia River Saturday.

(SEATTLE) - Crewman being airlifted from the 623-foot container ship Dapenghai In this video released by the Coast Guard, an HH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, Ore., conducts a medevac of a crewmember off the 623-foot container ship Dapenghai 150 miles west from the entrance of the Columbia River. The rescue was completed Saturday, Jan. 17th 2009.

Officials say the rescue helicopter crew transported the crewmember to an awaiting Life Flight helicopter crew at Astoria Regional Airport.

Around 8:30 AM Saturday, the Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., launched an HH-60 rescue helicopter crew to the scene, after receiving a report of a 36-year-old male crewmember suffering a possible stroke.

Coast Guard Rescues Surfers in Newport, Oregon (VIDEO)

The names of the surfers were not immediately available.

(SEATTLE) - Oregon's Yaquina Head Coast Guard officials say a man and a girl were hoisted from the rocks at Yaquina Head, Oregon, Sunday by one of their helicopter crews.

The Coast Guard Group/Air Station North Bend, Oregon, was contacted by Lincoln County dispatch at 2:32 PM and advised that three surfers were trapped on the rocks at Agate Beach near Yaquina Head.

The Coast Guard says crews from their stations at Depoe Bay and Yaquina Bay launched two 47-foot boat crews while an HH-65 crew from Coast Guard Air Facility at Newport was diverted to the scene.

Coast Guard helicopter rescue crews are currently conducting overflights of flood affected areas in Oregon and Washington to assess damage and look for stranded people.

Coast Guard Responds to Pacific Northwest Flooding

Over 25 Emergency Operations Centers throughout the state of Wash. are currently open; responding to and monitoring flooding, road conditions, and other storm-related events.

(ASTORIA, Ore. ) - MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter The United States Coast Guard in conjunction with other federal, state and local agencies is continuing its response to the Pacific Northwest flooding.

Earlier today, Coast Guard Air Station Astoria performed it's first rescue of the flood response when an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew hoisted two stranded people in Morton, Wash.

The rescue crew worked in conjunction with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department to locate the stranded citizens.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Snow removal With severe weather approaching, the Coast Guard reminds boaters and beach-goers to be prepared and stay aware. Strong winds and heavy surf are forecast over the next several days.

Minimize contact with flood water - Standing water from flooding can carry diseases and hazardous chemicals.

If you get your water from a well and water floods into your pump house - check to see if water from the ground went down your well.

Coast Guard Rescues Injured Crewman Near Umpqua River (VIDEO)

A man was medically evacuated from a fishing vessel near Umpqua River, Oregon, Saturday.

(NORTH BEND, Ore.) - Coast Guard rescue The U.S. Coast Guard has released video of a rescue operation over the weekend near the Umpqua River on the Pacific Ocean off Oregon.

Coast Guard Group Air Station in North Bend, Oregon was notified around 11:00 PM Saturday, that a man aboard the 50-foot crabbing vessel Rose Marie, had a serious hand injury.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to evacuate the man from the vessel.
