Oregon Army National Guard Re-Designates, Changes Command, of Aviation Unit in Salem

Every year the Oregon Army National Guard's 1042nd Med. Co. (AA) supports dozens of search and rescue operations throughout the state.

(Salem) - UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter As part of the Army's Transformation program, the Oregon Army National Guard re-designated one of their aviation units in a formal re-flagging ceremony at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem on Saturday.

The 1042nd Medical Company guideon will be ceremoniously cased symbolizing the deactivation of the unit and a new guideon will be uncased signifying the activation of Charlie Company 7/158 General Support Aviation Battalion.

The unit also changed command during the ceremony.

Helicopter Lifting Christmas Trees Crashes

The pilot was the only person on board, and came through without injury

(LYONS) - helicopter lifting Christmas tree The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a helicopter crash outside of Lyons on Wednesday.

The pilot, 41-year old Daniel Arenson, from North Bend, Oregon was hoisting trees for Sublimity Tree Farms at 10214 Wagner Rd SE, Lyons. The helicopter he was operating was a 1989 McDonald Douglas Model MD 369E.

Officials say that Arenson was hoisting a bundle of Christmas trees when the rope broke that was secured to the sling. The rope then rebounded into the rotor blades of the helicopter, causing the motor to stall.

Aircraft Crashes Into New York Apartment High Rise

The Oregon Air National Guard has launched two F-15's to oversee our own state's security, though authorities say it appears that the crash was not an act of terrorism.

(NEW YORK) - NY Fire logo An aircraft has slammed into a New York City Apartment High Rise.

The accident occurred just before noon west coast time.

According to media reports the address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street.

That is a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House.

Oregon Air National Guard Deploys 21 Airmen to Afghanistan

(SALEM) - Army Apache helicopter The Oregon Air National Guard's 116th Air Control Squadron will deploy 21 Airmen to Afghanistan Sept. 9th. The unit, based out of Camp Rilea near Warrenton, will make final preparations on Sept. 8th. for a 120 day tour of duty at Kandahar Air Base.

Seismic Survey Looks at Earthquake and Volcano Activity

Oregon is one of several states participating in the project that they hope will lead to increased safety in natural disasters.

(SALEM) - Mount Hood crater Oregon's Civil Air Patrol is working with the United States Geological Survey in a 6 state seismic survey event this coming weekend, August 25th-27th.

They are operating out of Willamette Aviation at the Aurora State Airport with 5 aircraft and up towards 50 people. They're also working with Civil Air Patrol wings out of California, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada.

Part of the work they will conduct includes photo and reconnaissance flights in both Washington and Oregon.

Three Victims Identified Following Sunday`s Helicopter Crash on Oregon Coast

Police and Coast Guard officials continue to request that anyone finding debris that may be associated with this crash should not remove the debris and notify local law enforcement of its location.

(ASTORIA) - Three people killed Sunday morning when their helicopter crashed into the Pacific Ocean south of Astoria have been identified by the Clatsop County Medical Examiner, Doctor Joanne Stefanelli. Next of kin notifications have been made.

Coast Guard pilots reported the on-scene weather as foggy with overcast skies and low visibility.

British Vintage Jet Crashes Into Hillsboro Neighborhood

Thousands attending the Hillsboro Airshow saw something they weren't expecting as a vintage jet tragically plunged into a neighborhood.

(HILLSBORO) - A 1959 British Hawker Hunter participating in the 2006 Oregon International Air Show crashed into a residential neighborhood near the Hillsboro Airport, setting at least two homes on fire just after 4:30 PM Sunday.

The pilot is reportedly a lawyer from California.

Connie King, a spokeswoman for the Hillboro Fire Department, said three homes were hit, one took a direct hit in the middle, and that so far there are no reports of any injuries on the ground.

Oregon International Airshow This Weekend in Hillsboro
