Albany to Celebrate Another Tree City USA Award

Albany has won the Tree City USA award every year since 1994.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Tree City USA The City of Albany will celebrate National Arbor Week, April 6-12, by giving away young trees, hosting a tree identification walk, and listening to music by students from Liberty Elementary School.

Arbor Day events are scheduled from 9:30 AM to noon Saturday, April 12, in the plaza at Albany City Hall, 333 Broadalbin St. SW. One hundred live trees will be provided for individuals who want them, and refreshments will be served.

Three Arrested on Meth Related Charges in Albany

Lebanon and Albany Police Departments assisted in serving the warrant.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Crystal Dawn Robinette, top left, Jeremy Hanson, bottom left and David Pahlman, bottom right, were arrested in Albany. Linn County Sheriff detectives say they executed a search warrant at 1024 9th Ave SE Albany on March 19th at about 8:30 PM.

Three suspects were arrested and Methamphetamine, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia, scales and surveillance cameras inside the residence were seized, according to Sheriff Tim Mueller.

Albany Police Seeking Bank Robbery Suspect

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - albany bank robber Police in Albany, Oregon are asking for the public's help in locating a man who robbed a U.S. Bank Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Eric Carter says police were dispatched to the Santiam branch of U.S Bank located at 2650 SE Santiam Highway around 12:36 p.m., on the report of a robbery. The suspect is described as a heavy set white male adult in his fifties, approximately 5'10", with short grey hair, wearing a dark jacket and baseball hat.

Oregon National Guard Responds to Possible Anthrax Scare

The incident was a hoax. Still if convicted, the individuals who left the envelopes face possible prosecution under federal anti-terrorism laws.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - One of the newer units in the Oregon National Guard worked closely with local first-responders and civilian emergency agencies during an incident in Albany, Oregon, today.

Members of the Oregon National Guard's 102nd Civil Support Team were called to the Linn County Courthouse located at 300 SW 4th Ave. in Albany, after workers found two envelopes containing a suspicious white powder.

Anthrax Threat at Albany Courthouse Turns Out to be Hoax

The courthouse will remain closed for the rest of today and is expected to open for business on time tomorrow morning.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Linn County Courthouse Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports that a reported anthrax threat has proved to be a hoax. The Linn County Courthouse had been closed due to security concerns after envelopes were discovered this morning threatening anthrax contamination.

He says that around 6:17 AM, a custodian opening the courthouse found a note written on an outside entry door and envelopes nearby.

One Person Dies in Motorcycle Crash in Benton County

Investigators say there is no evidence that alcohol / drugs were a factor. Both were wearing protective helmets.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Photo of fatal motorcycle crash scene in Benton County, Oregon, 2-12-08 by Oregon State Police Oregon State Police troopers are investigating a Monday evening motorcycle crash on Highway 20 in Benton County that resulted in the death of an Albany-area woman. Her husband was operating the motorcycle at the time of the crash and he received non-life threatening injuries.

OSP Sergeant Craig Flierl says Monday at approximately 6:45 PM, officers from Oregon State Police and the Benton County Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle fatal traffic collision on Highway 20 near milepost 5 in Benton County.

Burglary and Robbery Suspect Arrested in Scio

The man had several outstanding charges, his bail was set at $108,620.00.

(SCIO, Ore.) - Ronald Allen McLaughlin Linn County Sheriff's deputies arrested 27-year old Ronald Allen McLaughlin of Scio today, naming him as the suspect in a robbery and burglary that was reported Friday on Crabtree Drive near Crabtree.

Sheriff Tim Mueller says that around 5:04 AM Friday morning, Linn County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a report that a woman at that address had discovered a man, dressed in black, in the kitchen of her home, going through her purse.

Experimental Plane Crash Kills 3 in Linn County

The plane crashed in a harvested corn field about 1/4 mile from the nearest residence. No one on the ground was injured.

Oregon Man Killed in Tractor Rollover

The investigation indicated the tractor had slid off the road, which was slick and covered in six to eight inches of snow, approximately 30 yards down an embankment.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Death investigation Linn County deputies are investigating the death of a Eugene man who died yesterday when the tractor he was operating slid over an embankment and crushed him.

Sheriff Tim Mueller says 24-year old Brian Swenson of Eugene was clearing a road to a hydro electric plant near Yukwah Campground, approximately 19 miles east of Sweet Home on Highway 20 when the accident happened.
