Agriculture Appropriations Bill Passed by Senate Includes Funding for Oregon Projects

Wyden/Merkley-Requested Funding for Agriculture Research Contained in Bill.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Oregon farm Working to improve agricultural research capabilities in Oregon, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D- Ore.) and Jeff Merkley (D- Ore.) announced that an agriculture appropriations bill passed by the U.S. Senate contains more than nearly $7 million in projects for Oregon.

Included in the bill is funding for research into improving Oregon’s crops, utilizing Oregon’s forest resources, and controlling invasive species.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon forest Since U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar tossed out the Western Oregon Plan Revision (WOPR) in July, there are questions about which timber sales will be allowed to proceed on federal land in 16 Oregon counties.

Mitchell Man Charged with 12 Counts of Animal Neglect (PHOTOS)

The owner has been charged with twelve counts of Animal Neglect in the Second Degree, a Class B misdemeanor, with a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

(MITCHELL, Ore.) - Neglected horses and mules A Mitchell, Oregon man has been charged through the Wheeler County District Attorney's Office with twelve counts of Animal Neglect in the Second Degree.

Thirty horses and two mules were seized and evidence of neglect was found in each animal. Lack of hoof care was a primary issue, as well as the conditions the animals were being held in.

Man Gored to Death by Bull in Oregon City

A family patriarch was killed by a 1200 pound bull‏ that threatened rescuers and attacked a second man, a neighbor, who barely escaped with his life.

(OREGON CITY) - Bull that killed man in Oregon City, 7-5-09 A 1200 pound bull attacked and killed a man Sunday around 4:38 p.m. during a family get together in Oregon City. 66-year old Aurgliano Paulino Martinez-Sierra was killed by the massive bull while attending to his farm animals east of Oregon City.

The tragedy took place as an estimated 30 or more extended family and friends gathered on Sunday, to visit and at their family residence on South Springwater Road in Oregon City, Oregon.

Rural Oregon State Rep. Smith Openly Opposes Business Tax Hikes

Greg Smith says he also supports logging tax breaks.

(87868786) -  State Representative Greg Smith Representative Greg Smith (R-Heppner) voted against higher taxes on Oregon’s business community today. In separate legislative action, logging companies in Eastern Oregon and around the state will benefit from a measure Smith is negotiating.

Smith said, “during these tough recessionary times, we need to help businesses survive. Higher taxes on companies mean less money to keep and hire workers or make new investments.”
