Oregon Cheerleader Honored by Sports Illustrated

Kennedy joins senior Kelsi Metzler as Ducks to have earned SI.com recognition during the 2007-08 academic year.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Kacey Kennedy University of Oregon junior Kacey Kennedy has been named Cheerleader of the Week by SI.com, the official website of Sports Illustrated.

When she's not rooting on her Ducks, Kacey likes to watch her favorite show, Nip/Tuck, and watch the New York Yankees.

Western Oregon Rocks Corban, 10-2

Wolves use a pair of 4-run innings to top Warriors.

(MONMOUTH, Ore. ) - western oregon logoSenior Daniel Flores went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a pair of Warriors went a perfect 1-for-1 in the game, as Corban's baseball team fell to NCAA Division II member Western Oregon, 10-2, Tuesday at WOU Field.

Western Oregon was led by Tyson Nelson, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and one run scored.

Willamette's Franchi Named NWC Pitcher of the Week

For the week, Franchi earned a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Nikki FranchiWillamette University junior pitcher Nikki Franchi has been named Northwest Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 9, 2008. Franchi helped Willamette go 4-0 in a pair of NWC doubleheaders over the weekend.

She also received the award on Feb. 25, after recording a win and a save during the opening weekend of the season to lead WU to victories over Oregon Institute of Technology and Concordia University (Ore.).

Yankees Sign Comedian Billy Crystal to One-Day Contract

Crystal, who turns 60 on Friday, will wear uniform No. 60 in the game.

(TAMPA, Fla. ) - Billy CrystalThe Yankees are ready to add a touch of Hollywood to their roster, announcing their plans to sign actor and comedian Billy Crystal to a one-day contract during Spring Training.

Crystal will sign the contract and work out with the Yankees at Legends Field on Wednesday, before playing in the club's game on against the Pirates on Thursday. Commissioner Bud Selig approved the Yankees' extension of a contract to Crystal.

Lute Olson to Return as Head Coach at Arizona

Olson has a career record of 780-280 (.736) in 34 seasons as a collegiate head coach and 589-187 (.759) in 24 years at Arizona.

(TUCSON, Ariz.) - Lute OlsonUniversity of Arizona Athletics Director Jim Livengood today confirmed that Lute Olson would return to his position as head coach of the Wildcats basketball team at the conclusion of the current season.

Olson has been away from the program since Nov. 4, and is returning to fulfill a contract with the University that runs through 2011.

Wade Done for Rest of NBA Season

Wade initially had surgery on the left knee on May 15, 2007 and has been bothered by tendinitis in the knee.

(MIAMI) - Dwyane WadeThe Miami HEAT announced today that guard Dwyane Wade will undergo OssaTron treatment (Shock wave therapy) on his left knee and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2007-08 season.

Wade has appeared in 51 games (49 starts) for the HEAT this season, averaging a team-leading 24.5 points (5th in the NBA), a team-leading 6.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.71 steals in 38.3 minutes per game.

Busch, Stewart Give Toyota First 1-2 NASCAR Finish

Tony Stewart, a teammate to Busch, claimed the runner-up spot with Dale Earnhardt wheeling his No. 88 Chevrolet to a third-place finish.

(HAMPTON, Ga.) - Kyle Busch Atlanta Kyle Busch accomplished three historical NASCAR milestones when he raced his way to victory in the Kobalt Tools 500 Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Busch became the youngest driver to win a Cup event at AMS and delivered Toyota their first Cup Series win, becoming the first driver to race a foreign nameplate to victory lane in the Cup Series since Al Keller in a Jaguar in 1954. Busch also became the first driver to win both the Craftsman Truck Series and Sprint Cup Series events on the same weekend.

Freshman second baseman Cortney Kivett extended her hit streak to 15 games with her 1-for-3 day and was one of six Ducks that collected hits.

(LAS VEGAS) - Kathy ArendsenIn the University of Oregon softball team’s finale of the UNLV Invitational Sunday, junior Melissa Rice staked her third win of the tournament with a 2-0 win over New Mexico State at Eller Media Stadium.

The victory also gave sixth-year head coach Kathy Arendsen the 200th win of her Duck career.

Oregon Runner Breaks Steve Prefontaine's Indoor Mile Mark

Acosta becomes the fourth Oregon athlete to earn an automatic berth in the national collegiate meet.

(SEATTLE) - Acosta runningUniversity of Oregon sophomore A.J. Acosta eclipsed the school indoor record in the mile run while dipping under the automatic qualifying standard for next week’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships by posting a winning time of 3-minutes, 58.52 seconds in the UW Last Chance Qualifier Saturday afternoon in Washington’s Dempsey Indoor Facility.

Acosta’s time broke the previous indoor school record of 3:59.2 set by Steve Prefontaine in 1973.
