Johjima Signs Three Year Contract Extension With Seattle

Johjima, who signed prior to the 2006 season, has caught 2,444.1 innings over the past three seasons, third-most in the Majors.

(SEATTLE) - Kenji JohjimaSeattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced today that the Mariners have agreed to terms with catcher Kenji Johjima on a three-year contract extension.

Johjima, who was eligible for free agency at the end of this season, is now signed through 2011. Johjima, 31, was among the top catchers, both offensively and defensively, in 2007.

Higgins Goal Lifts Timbers Over Thunder

With the win, the Timbers extend their unbeaten regular-season streak at home to 16 matches.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland TimbersMidfielder Shaun Higgins scored his first goal since the 2005 season to lead the Portland Timbers to a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Thunder Thursday night at PGE Park.

Forward Chris Brown scored his second goal of the season early on to give Portland (2-0-0, 6 pts) a 1-0 lead, but Minnesota answered back before the break to even the score.

Western Oregon Spring Game at West Salem High

The Wolves are in their third week of the four-week session.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Western Oregon FootballThe second football intersquad game of the 2008 spring season will take place Saturday at West Salem High School, at 1 p.m. The event is free to the public.

An 100-play scrimmage is planned for Coach Arne Ferguson's team, with the first-team offense working against the first-team defense, second-team vs. second team, etc.

Stampede Force Game 3 in NBA D-League Finals

Former Oregon star Luke Jackson, now playing for the Stampede, finished with 8 points and 7 assists.

(BOISE, ID) - Idaho Stampede The Idaho Stampede forced a third and decisive game in the D-League Finals with a 90-89 victory overthe Austin Toros as Cory Violette scored 19 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 21 seconds left.

The Stampede held the Toros to one point in the final 2 1/2 minutes and survived a frantic finish, setting up Friday night's game at Qwest Arena.

Willamette Softball Ranked #24

Bearcats, 23-7, will play #3 Linfield this weekend.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Nikki FranchiThe Willamette University softball team is ranked #24 in the nation in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll for NCAA Division III released on April 23. The Bearcats are 23-7 on the season, including 17-5 in the Northwest Conference.

Willamette is among the national leaders on offense. WU leads Division III in home runs per game at 1.37 (41 in 30 games).

(NAMPA, ID) - Jessica HallmarkWestern Oregon University used a potent offensive attack to sweep a Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball twinbill from Northwest Nazarene University on Thursday afternoon at Halle Field in Nampa.

Katie Fleer picked up both pitching wins and the Western Oregon line-up racked up 32 hits on the day.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Jennifer KollaerFreshman Jennifer Kollaer (Albany, Ore.) pitched a complete-game four-hitter in the opener while adding three RBIs, as Corban's softball team earned a split with the visiting Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College, 3-1 & 4-5, in non-conference action Thursday at Warrior Field.

Prior to the opener, Corban seniors Lindsey Batey (Aloha, Ore.) and Jennifer Childers (Winston, Ore.) were honored for their careers wearing the Warriors' navy and gold.

Reserved seats for the two-day meet are $9 per day, while general admission tickets are $6 daily for adults and $4 for children, 17 years and younger.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Brianne TheisenClose to 1,700 high school, college and university, and post-collegiate competitors will converge on Hayward Field this weekend to take part in the Oregon Relays presented by the Oregon Community Credit Union Friday and Saturday.

Men and women representing as many as 18 NCAA Division I programs are expected to compete, including teams from Arizona State, Central Michigan, Colorado, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Portland, Portland State, Washington, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
