Blazers to Host Playoff Rally

Tickets for first two games of ‘Rip City Uprise’ to go on sale that same day.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The Portland Trail Blazers will tip-off the postseason on Thursday, April 16, with an afternoon rally (exact time TBD) in Pioneer Square, allowing fans to wish their team well before the Trail Blazers embark on their first playoff appearance since 2003.

Earlier Thursday, at noon, tickets will go on sale for the first two home games of the “Rip City Uprise” - a.k.a. the 2009 NBA Playoffs – at the Rose Garden. Less than 1,000 tickets are expected to be available for each game.

Bearcats Defeat Puget Sound in Doubleheader, 3-1 and 3-2

Franchi strikes out 12 batters in first game.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Willamette University, ranked #11 in NCAA Division III, won a pair of close Northwest Conference games with strong pitching and timely hitting, as the Bearcats defeated the University of Puget Sound, 3-1 and 3-2, on Friday, April 10 at the WU Softball Field. Willamette upped its record to 23-2 overall, 16-2 in the NWC.

The Loggers fell to 10-19 on the season, 4-12 in the conference.

Baseball: George Fox 4-21, Whitman 1-2

Bruins Regain NWC Lead with Sweep of Missionaries.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - George Fox logoKeeping themselves in the thick of things in the tight Northwest Conference race, the George Fox University Bruins collected 34 hits en route to 4-1 and 21-2 win over the visiting Whitman College Missionaries in a baseball doubleheader Friday afternoon here at Morse Field and regained the league lead when the two other top contenders lost three out of four.

George Fox improved to 22-7 overall and 17-3 in the conference, while Whitman fell to 3-20 overall and 2-15 in the NWC.

Led By Ortiz, No. 16 Beavers Open Series With 9-5 Win At Arizona

Oregon State and Arizona resume the three-game series today at 2:00 p.m.

(TUCSON, Ariz.) - Ryan Ortizyan Ortiz tied a career-high by going 4-for-5 and the 16th-ranked Oregon State baseball team utilized a four-run eighth for a 9-5 victory over Arizona Thursday night at Sancet Stadium.

The teams will now play the second game of the three-game series Friday at 2 p.m. PT instead of the regularly scheduled 6 p.m. start due to possible inclement weather in Arizona.

Beavers Knock Off Miners To Capture CBI Title, 81-73

Oregon State held the lead for the final 31 minutes after an early 17-4 run, though UTEP trimmed a 10-point deficit to 52-50 on Culpepper's 3-pointer with 9:47 remaining.

(EL PASO, Texas ) - OSU BeaversRickey Claitt was 5-of-6 on 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 28 points for Oregon State, carrying the Beavers to an 81-73 victory over UTEP in Game 3 of the College Basketball Invitational championship series Friday night.

Oregon State made 12-of-19 3-point shots for a 2-1 series win, which clinched its first postseason title in school history. Lathen Wallace added 13 and Roeland Schaftenaar scored 12 for the Beavers.

No. 6 Wildcats Sweep Bruins to Stay Unbeaten in NWC.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Linfield Wildcats logoPiling up 32 hits while allowing only four themselves, the No. 6-ranked Linfield College Wildcats maintained their perfect Northwest Conference record by sweeping the home-standing George Fox University Bruins 12-1 and 17-0 in a pair of five-inning softball games Saturday afternoon here at Morse Field.

In the opener, the Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st when Stacie Doucette slugged her sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot down the left-field line.

(SANTA CRUZ, Calif.) - OSU Junior Diego VelasquezJunior Diego Velasquez climbed all the way to first place Monday shooting a 4-under 66 during the second round of the 63rd Annual Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Velasquez started the day in 31st place after a 4-over in the first round, but had five birdies in his last eight holes of the second round to catapult his way to the top of the leaderboard.

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - George Fox University logoTaking turns stealing victories from each other, the George Fox University Bruins won the first game of a Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader 4-3 on Matt Wyckoff’s walk-off three-run homer in the last of the 7th.

That came before the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes scored eight times in the last three innings for a 9-7 second-game win Monday afternoon here at Morse Field.
