Op-Ed: Promised Veto Flies in the Face Of Compassionate Conservativism

Veto-weapon held high over the bowed heads of Congressional participants on both sids of the aisle, “President” Bush proclaims "ideology absolutism" as his real religion.

(BEND, Ore.) - Killing federal funds sure to help the lower-levels of the foundering middle class as well as the poor-and-threatened, he will deny Congress its Constitutional responsibilities to protect, preserve and strengthen the wit, wisdom and will of the American people.

Seventy percent of all Americans stand ready and willing to work out universal health care for all --absolutely now seen worldwide as an essential human right-- here in the U.S. We remain the ONLY developed nation left in the world without such an organized and effective system for solving the most-felt and most-damaging necessity in most societies today.

Seen “objectively”, there is reason to realize that he is simply now operating as a puppet-on-strings --and we know by whom those strings are pulled: “Corporate cronyism” is the cry de coeur in D. C. today, heard in every hearing room as well as in all those clandestine cover-up spots so familiar to all denizens of K-Street.

Iowa’s Grassley, Utah’s Hatch, and an entire spectrum of other R-designated Senate-and-House leaders have already signed on supporting this now-threatened legislation, also endorsed by an overwhelming consensus of clearly-authoritative sources; including the American Medical Association; and even--wonder of political wonders !-- the chief lobby forces in BOTH the insurance and medical groups most affected AND senior citizens, too.

Yet Bush’s compassionate claim for “the childrens” is sorely strained by the simple arithmetic available.

It demonstrates that costs will be fully covered by the bill’s increase in tobacco prices.

That is in itself a proven method of DEcreasing medical liabilities falling to the taxpayer by DEcreasing smoking itself.

Surely that consequence -a sure result of the “free ana open market” so heavily preached by the opposition itself-- should be not only acceptable but welcomed, as proof of their proudly-proclaimed political nostrums.

Clearly, constantly escalating worldwide war-costs means much more to Bush and his neocon cabal than “compassionate conservatism”, when desperately/demanded-action “for the childens” is REALLY right out there on the table; in both houses of our ostensible “elected representative assembly.”

We really need to “light up” on this one... NOT more of those death-sticks, please, but the illumination cast strongly on this decision; for all elective servants of the people; by our consensus of increasingly-insistent --and now threatening-- voices in every channel we can use to communicate the real sounds of “compassionate democracy”.

Neal et al: Comments seem to call forth this one, which may sum up well for most of us: "...There is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our overthrow. ... Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing." : Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837 ===

My suggestion is to write Congressman Walden in this manner; I voted for a man who would have doubled the health care for children and given one half to the orphanges in Iraq and Afganistan to aid and assist the orphaned children in assylums where children who have seen unspeakable slaughter are sold to anyone for anything. Where is the soul of my country, Mr. Congressman?

What else do you expect from the neocon liars? I knew the whole 'compassionate conservatism' was a crock from the start. The only use of it was that they admitted that conservatism inherently lacked compassion. If you are going to be a prostitute for the corporate state at least be honest about it instead of lying and trying to insult our intelligence with this 'compassionate conservatism' BS. Maybe Shrub thinks we are as stupid as he is... 'the childrens' indeed. Ah well...
