Sisters Man Dies in Single Car Crash

Police say alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor.

(UNION, Ore.) - A Sisters, Oregon man died early Saturday morning in a single vehicle crash on Highway 237 about 1/4 mile south of Union in northeast Oregon.

Just before 7:00 AM Saturday, a report was received of an unwitnessed single vehicle crash on Highway 237 west of Union.

Police say preliminary investigation indicates at an undetermined early morning time a 1996 Dodge van driven by 49-year old Stephen T. Wariner of Sisters, was southbound on Highway 237 near milepost 20 when it failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the highway and rolled once before coming to rest on its side.

Mr. Wariner was not using safety restraints polic said, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Oregon State Police Trooper Marcus McDowell from the La Grande Area Command office is completing the investigation. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor.
