(SALEM) - Defying both logic and recent history, “Saxton the Silent” is now decrying incumbent-Governor “Decent-Man Kulongski” for every honest, open, inevitable answer on Oregon’s rising cost of state program operations.
Governor K. honors his Oath of Office, and tells it to us “like it really is”’ perhaps because he is not PLEDGED to other-interests-first allegiance seeking to weaken State government and then “strangle it in the bathtub”.
Saxton’s statements, summaries and simplified quotes (often supplied for him by others) reflect remarkably the national debacle permeating all politics, proceeding from D.C. downwards.
Decrying deep national-international trends far beyond any action possible at State levels-alone, Saxton seeks citizen-miasma as his main weapon; and provides it by “more malarkey” and “thin-sliced political salami”.
(Quotes from political-analysts, available on request.)
Saxton has been directly challenged at every turn “to speak up like a real candidate” and propose his own personal solutions, rather than allow others to tell “the media” what he might say.
Example: 9/26 re cigarette-tax:
"He firmly believes we can meet the needs of the state, whether we're talking about education or the needs of Oregon's children, within the current budget," Schein said. "And while cigarette taxes may be a popular item to pick on, the governor has shown no end in his willingness to add other taxes to the list of those he thinks should be raised."
(David Steeves; R-G, 9/26/06)
Is Ron Saxton really ready to stomach more kids-addicted, for GOP-cult-proclaimed reasons?
As corporate counselor, he must know realities involved here, undeniable on public record; yet he allows a campaign-minion to mouth obvious malign pronouncement for him, as you “see with your own eyes”.
But he may have been reluctant since still-hurting from that bad “foot-in-mouth” occurrence very early in this campaign, so revealing both of his basic attitudes and his managerial skills.
Promising but never producing still remains his only prerogative: He’s never stated specific, detailed, practical planned-effort to DO anything; except cut taxes for his “rich and still-deserving” crowd.
Capital gains and investment income tax-benefits go mostly to those few now in affluence. Less-than-half U.S. families own ANY stocks; most are simply scrabbling to “get along” --and worrying about education for their children and youth.
He slides smoothly onto the “issue-sled” of professional studies by bipartisan groups --pirating while politicizing and “foot-balling” their statements --purposefully distorted.
(See press-quotation of CHALKBOARD spokesperson.)
The most befuddled of Oregonians understand Oregon’s cost-levels are beyond control of Legislative efforts-alone; defying simplified-promises of “ten percent across the board.”
Any economist will tell a frustrated “inquiring citizen”:
“There’s no way in the 21st Century that can ever happen.” (Documentation on request.)
The OREGONIAN does real community-service, providing summary-details of complex Oregon problems in probing examination of issues in its front-page series running this entire week.
Each report emphasizes direct consequence of 20-year political-miasma in the Legislature; via operating plans underway ever since Reagan --by a determined cabal STILL operating on 19th Century politics -- just as the 21st Century overwhelms Oregon with inevitable costs driving also-inevitable program necessities.
You should surely remember the names Grover Norquist and especially his buddy-since-college days, Jack Abramoff. Norquist is widely-known for longtime seminars shared with GOP-cult/types --and some Oregonians; Abramoff for lavish lobbying “take-home pay” in D.C.’s “defeated”-democracy, leading to his prison sentence now being served.
Norquist is notorious for “the PLEDGE”, signed by Saxton, even though he refuses to support the ATR initiative threatening further Oregon catastrophe for State-funding of necessities.
Note, please, that it is Mass. Gov. Romney delivering that HALF-MILLION-MORE political-propaganda dollar-payment from the GOP-cult big-wigs, relayed by Republican Governors. Romney ran on similar “muscle-mouthed promises” now beset- besieged by broken-promises congealing around his “health for all” program demanding new dollars.
That money comes with massive reluctance; GOP-cult big-wigs know it’s needed elsewhere.
BUT this one “we-must-win”; $500,000 flung down to bolster a faltering, falsity-based campaign is “small-bet” against rapidly-rising national tide -- about “to sink all boats.”
Near-calamity is under way threatening continuing control of the Congress; sure to result in highly-dangerous deep-probing of many matters and monstrous methods; immediately after control-shift to Congressmen ready, willing and able for established Constitutional means, methods, and multiple-witness testimonies.
(The AMERICAN PROSPECT, 10/06, pp. 36-40: “ A Slight Oversight”, Robert Kutner; www.prospect.org)
That’s the purpose of sudden Saxton-campaign support in Oregon --noted for its modern miracle-man of Congressional renown: Remember Senator Wayne Morse ??
Sen. Morse’s major achievements --the National Defense Education Act-- was designed to strengthen and support education by access to Mathematics, Science, Foreign Languages specialists; prerequisites now-demanded by world-wide trends including migration to Oregon for corporations bringing “brainworker” jobs.
That’s a massively/major reason Oregon education needs strengthening of the LOCAL workforce; AND the education-system corporations and their responsible-parent workers will surely seek.
It is ironic to see the Morse-manipulated federal funding reflecting precisely-then what we need NOW in Oregon education; providing special emphasis also on learning media; effectively and efficiently delivered via modern instructional technologies for every classroom, teacher and learner; as I have cause to remember.
You will recall an Op Ed recently re widespread usage now as essential operating tools in every other segment of our society.
(ALL Op Eds are available from Salem-News Archives at no cost.)
There MUST be “real change” NOW in Oregon education. That will never occur via approach, attitude and shaping-philosophy -- demonstrably defying democratic principles-- by the Saxton For Governor campaign activities.
Let your mind measure the man and his mouthiness this week. Make sure to “see with your own eyes” at URLs already sent to you; and to listen to the first and other debates for deep-instinct communications you will inevitably FEEL.
Then figure out what's “the right thing to do”.
That’s YOUR responsibility precisely as for ANY Governor bound to commonweal interests by his Oath-of-Office: Like our incumbent Governor Ted Kulongoski.

Governor T. has not honored his oath of office! He violated our state constitution when he entered into a compact to approve a casino in Florence and most recently a casino in the Cascade Locks area.

Joel et al: Listened carefully to OPB-Radio, and counted at last six Saxton "need to find out more" statements. Odd that he avoids direct commitment to using corporate-side of kicker for rainy day fund, too -- OR is it, given his PLEDGE to ATR to deny and defy ANY tax rise.

Joel et al: Don't forget the candidate-debate on PBS-Radio at 2 pm and OPB-TV 9-10 pm. --you can "see with own eyes", always the best way to evaluate a candidate.
Joel Walker September 27, 2006 11:47 am (Pacific time)
No candidate is worthy of your vote if all they can offer are nebulous goals with no plan to adchieve them. To test a candidate's value, make them tell you what they'll really do beyond "strive to work as hard as possible to bring all my efforts to bear on the creation of a special task force which will appoint a committee to engage a consultant to study blah blah blah." Then ask them to spell out what powers the office they seek will actually have with respect to the issues at hand. Maybe it's just me.
