(OREGON CITY) - Emergency crews were called to a fatal pedestrian accident on Roots Road in Milwaulkie Wednesday morning at 10:45 AM. Investigators with Clackamas County say 33-year old Gary Elliott Battin was playing basketball with a relative in the driveway of a home he was visiting in Milwaulke when he chased the ball into the street and ran into a trailer being towed by a westboud pickup on Roots Road. Sheriff's Patrol personnel say Mr. Battin ran out of the driveway at 7725 SE Roots Road while chasing a basketball and ran into a trailer – head first -- being pulled by a westbound pick-up truck. This pick-up truck was described to have been traveling – at an acceptable rate of speed -- westbound on SE Roots Road, at the time of this accident, just east of SE Patsy Avenue, on Roots Rd. No citations were issued with the vehicle involved, and this tragedy is considered by investigators to be an unfortunate accident.
