(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police detectives are completing the death investigation of a man found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon at Holman Wayside State Park along Highway 22. They are working with the assistance of Polk County Sheriff's Office and Marion County Medical Examiner. On Tuesday, at approximately 5:45 PM, a bicyclist found the body of a 56-year old Keizer man in the parking lot of Holman Wayside State Park. Polk County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police responded to the scene. The investigation determined the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. A handgun was found near the body and his vehicle was near the park's entrance. Next of kin notification has been made. Marion County District Attorney's Office and Crisis Chaplaincy provided assistance during the investigation. Salem-News.com like other media outlets, typically does not cover suicide related deaths. However when an investigation takes place on public property it leaves large numbers of people highly curious about what happened at the location.
