(SALEM, Ore. ) - A minor earthquake shook the mid-Willamette Valley last night.

The USGS says the 3.6 magnitude quake struck at 11:20 PM, and was centered 5 miles NW of Brooks, 12 miles north of Salem, and had a depth of 13.8 miles.

The epicenter was located near Lone Tree Bar State Park.

There are no reports of injures or damage from the quake.

Reports into the Salem-News.com Newsroom from local residents said the quake lasted only a couple of seconds, but the quake was strong enough to shake computer tables, lamps, and nerves.

Geologists said the last time a quake hit in this particular area was back in 1895.

According to the USGS website, 593 people from 99 zipcodes have reported feeling the quake.

From Lincoln City on the central Oregon coast, north to Woodland, Washington, Waldport on the northern Oregon coast, and south to Corvallis.

I agree, the reporting was far better than the SJ and will try to get an address for Lone Tree Bar State Park, that is a first-hearing for me.

I felt it here as just one sharp jolt. My chair had wheels and it moved.

Lori B - I do not post to the SJ message boards because they censor that which they disagree with. Which is pretty much why you only get the vast majority of postings on those forums from the right wing wingnut neocon tinfoil hat wearing freaks. Point out their nonsense, fight dirty such as using logic, reason, facts and critical thinking and you get banned. Ah well...

That is scary

felt it up here in portland as well. I live in the raleigh hills area, on the border of beaverton and portland. Felt my chair and computer table wobble just a tad...but i thought at first it was the cold medication making me dizzy. Freaky. I was living in Salem during the big spring break one in 93...wow.

From the NE Salem area--I felt it too but never made the connection til I got online this morning. I thought it was my cat playing around under my recliner, only to find that she was in the other room! And yes, Steve I was up late, as it's typical of me anyways. :o) Neal...what does SJ's reporting bias had to do with the earthquake news??? If ya wanna gripe about it, post it in the SJ's online MB. :o)

I heard all the Portland TV stations this morning saying they got hundreds of e-mails into their newsrooms about the quake. Who the heck was up that late last night?? Kids should have been in bed for school, parents for work. What do they now have internet access in local bars and jails.

You are both correct and I hate the fact that the SJ.com now has pop-up ads, that's why I come here for news.

Neal Feldman September 24, 2007 9:13 am (Pacific time)

SJ never gives decent reporting unless it fits their agenda. Just like with Childrens Services and CASA. They do article after article slanted incredibly in favor of these agencies yet never an article dealing with the 80-90 % of cases where kids are ripped from homes for no legitimate reason, the 'recipe for failure' nonsense called Reunification Plans, etc. Because the agenda of the SJ is to support Gestapo CPS and to bury any bad data about them and to put as much lipstick onto the pig as they possibly can. I have watched this happen constantly. The list of 'flags' that suggest a parent MIGHT at some time in the future abuse or neglect their kid(s) amazingly is also a list describing poor people. Go figure. Ah well...
