(SALEM, Ore. ) - Beginning September 21st and continuing through the fall, the Willamette National Forest will be reconstructing road access and parking at the popular Three Pools Swimming area. The area will be CLOSED during reconstruction until further notice, and will reopen by spring. The project is funded by the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 which was approved by the Hood-Willamette Resource Advisory Committee. The reconstruction will organize the site and help reduce congestion by paving the road and parking areas, and delineating parking spaces. Future improvements to the site include trails, a scenic overlook, picnic sites and educational signing. “I’m so pleased to see this project get underway,” commented Detroit District Ranger Paul Matter. “Three Pools is an important recreation site and this project will improve the visitor’s experience as well as protect soil and water resources.” The Three Pools area is located along the Little North Fork of the Santiam River on Road 2207 approximately 17 miles east of Highway 22 at Mehama.
