Surviving the Peace: Laos

Watch a Movie & Save a Life with MAG America.

Surviving the Peace documents the lives of Mr. Ladone (above) and his family by showing the struggles they face daily due to leftover unexploded bombs in their backyard.

(PORTLAND, OR) - It's hard to believe it's already September! I hope that you all have had a great summer AND are coming on Wednesday, September 19th for a look at the wonderful work of the Mines Advisory Group (MAG)  at Mercy Corps HQ in downtown Portland. MAG is a Nobel Peace Prize winning organization that has that since 1989 has worked to clear landmines and other types of UXO in 30 countriessince 1989.  Here's what's in store:

  • View a screening of the new short documentary film Surviving the Peace.  For many, the US's secret bombing campaign in Laos during the Vietnam W ar and legacy of unexploded ordnance (UXO) is, at best, a foggy bit of our history. The film succinctly brings the times, the legacy, and a hopeful future into focus.
  • Participate in a live video call with MAG field offices. Find out first-hand what it's like to manage a field unit in SE Asia, the Middle East or Africa. Chat with our visiting staff from MAG's Washington DC office.

You can get tickets online here. Donate $25 and write "Portland" in the comments section. A  few tickets will be available at the door. Drop Caitlin Hinton a line if you have any questions at Caitlin.Hinton@maginternational.org and I look forward to seeing on 9/19!

Cheers and Best,
Scott Ransmeier
