I am running to raise funds to ensure that their struggle is supported and that the freedoms we take for granted are given to them too.

(LONDON) - My name is Doug Janke and I’m Head of Fundraising at Burma Campaign UK. On Sunday October 6th I’m running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for Burma Campaign UK. Over the last few years I have been inspired by the stories and struggles of my Burmese friends in their fight for justice. I have also seen them take on extreme challenges to raise funds for justice. Now it’s my turn! If you are a UK resident please sponsor me here: https://my.give.net/burmacampaign_dougjanke

and from anywhere outside the UK you can support here: http://www.bmycharity.com/BurmaCardiffRun In the 2 years since President Thein Sein came to power over 300,000 people have been forced from their homes. The Burmese Army continues to rape women and kill children while sanctions are relaxed and our government follows a policy of appeasement, putting business first and showing a blatant disregard for human rights. In December last year I met a husband and wife who had each lost a leg from separate landmines 8 years apart and I spoke with a mother from Burma whose husband had been killed. She was living with her three young children on a rubbish dump in Thailand. Burma Campaign UK makes a difference in many ways. For example, we persuaded the Department for International Development to fund the clinic where the husband and wife received treatment. I am running to raise funds to ensure that their struggle is supported and that the freedoms we take for granted are given to them too. Your support can help us fight to stop human rights abuses. Thank you Doug
