Salem-News.com Offers News Training, Seeks Advertising Sales Assistants

New Media Today: gain association with the hottest news group in Oregon!

Salem-News.com
Salem-News.com

(SALEM, Ore.) - Six years and almost 16,000 articles later, Salem-News.com is publishing more fresh content from more writers in more countries than ever before. The site has also been setting records for visitor traffic. With more than 60 writers, our size and subsequent role in the world of online journalism accelerated faster than expected over the last two years.

Before I continue with a great deal of information about the site, I want to announce that we are looking for a few people who have an interest in becoming involved, mostly on a volunteer basis, but with real promise of future opportunity.

Of the writers I mentioned, some contribute daily, some weekly, some less often, but it is a constant flow. Along with these contributions are hundreds of press releases that arrive daily in our mail from all over the world. I am looking for someone who wants to learn the ropes of the news business from my perspective. I am willing to teach; in return I need one or more people who can help with the flow of news. A person in this capacity will hopefully already have some related background, and it is essential to have a solid grasp on the language and to be able to edit and proofread, as well as rewrite press releases. It all happens in Salem. I think it is possible to work with people in other locations in the future.

This is a full multi-media site; we are constantly producing and publishing our own video reports, as well as carrying many from YouTube and other sources. For the creative, there are endless things to grasp and we are responsive to ideas and input. Salem-News.com is a serious news organization with an honest disposition.

Market Salem-News.com to the World

In addition to news assistants, we are always looking for people who want to sell advertising. This is still new territory for most sales people, but we need your help and you might as well get involved with a group of sincere people who are pioneering and enterprising in spirit. This is commission only contract sales, but we pay a higher commission than comparable media groups. There is a real future for those who have what it takes to sell advertising.

Advertising Business

At the same time, if your business needs exposure, then write to us and inquire about advertising rates. They are very inexpensive and highly effective. Salem-News.com recently saw 132,000 unique visitors in a single day. This was an extraordinary accomplishment and due mostly to the success of a story on the Bermuda Triangle by our 'Modern day Renaissance Man'- Terrrence Aym. That is a sign of our serious potential and the direction of our growth.

Businesses that advertise with Salem-News.com are operated by people with great vision, who see the direction we are moving in. They are people who know that there is very little support for journalists who raise a voice for Palestine and Israel. They also know that medical marijuana is here to stay. Bonnie King is one of the nation's most trusted young voices in this fight today, and our mentor, Dr. Phil Leveque, is the world's most experienced. Our articles are now published in the late Jack Herer's 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes' (Edition 12) and Ed Rosenthal's 'Big Buds Volume 4' which is due to be released this month. These interconnections all over the world with the absolute top and most highly regarded activists in this unique culture, make Salem-News.com an idea advertising platform for all cannabis related businesses now legally doing business in the US and abroad.

Some day the ads won't be cheap, more businesses are getting in while the rates are still low. Send an email to our ad department at adsales@salem-news.com to learn more.

Viewer Support

Bonnie King on supporting Salem-News.com

Also, we have been clear for some time that we can always really use reader support. It takes so much to keep this going every day, and I do mean every day, that we are often fighting to stay afloat financially. If you are in Salem, we can also use things like cameras, laptop computers and even vehicles.

We never ask for support from people who are also struggling, but those who are not, if you understand the importance of what we are doing, your assistance can make a larger difference than we can express. Salem-News.com pursues hard, biting stories that are simply not found in other mainstream media coverage. We have been working steadily for over six years and have achieved a great deal of success gaining visitors. We have more writers than almost any similar news agency. They are recruited and accepted as writers because they are a particularly good fit with the rest of the team. It takes a lot to keep publishing their content, we do it because it is the right thing to do.

Your support makes a huge difference for us.

Just consider Salem-News.com and what we are keeping afloat, the next time you feel like you have something to spare. Visit this page to learn how you can help too.

Breakthrough: Mobile Salem-News.com

Though we are still very much in a growth stage, interesting and exciting developments are taking place. One is the addition of our new mobile.salem-news.com for mobile devices like Blackberrys, I-Phones and other portable Web devices.

This new feature recently launched by Salem-News.com Web Designer Matt Lintz, takes the news organization to a new level.

News on the go is in growing demand. One strong point to this new service will be a fantastic ad program that will allow sponsors to reach mobile users, a sought after market.

Our Web Team, Matt Lintz, James Lewis and Ersun Warncke, are designing the new Salem-News.com framework and format. This is still several weeks ahead, I have been told we could have it up in the relative near future. This will be a new aspect of our evolution that I predict will be very meaningful. Over six years we have had time to learn what works and what is ultimately less effective. The new site is something we are very excited about, we will offer updates in the near future as things begin to shape up.

Salem Means 'Peace'

Our goal from the first day has been to offer a product for news viewers that is helpful and educational, fast, non-invasive and undemanding, relevant and honest. There are many unmet needs in the world of news and Salem-News.com has proven to be one of the very best answers. Our adherence to honesty, and our choice to only work with experienced journalists and 'niche writers', has helped maintain our strength, while spreading, I hope, an ever present set of reasons for people in western countries particularly, to consider how vital and overlooked the entire notion of 'Peace really is. I find it painful that the expression 'peace' is generally associated with a progressive or li

We are bound to no political party and yet we do speak out clearly about certain issues. Salem means Peace, in case you didn't know that, so we have a lot to live up to with a name like that. So many people the world over do not connect our name to our location in Salem, Oregon; they enter the site with a certain expectation. While the methods vary, I can speak for all of our writers when I say that peace is the most important collective goal we can possibly have.

Mainstream Voice for the Marijuana Culture

Bonnie King has been actively covering medical marijuana in recent years, working closely with Dr. Leveque, continually building a particular following as she trails significant stories in this unique seemingly no longer 'counter' culture that centers around this growingly legal herb. Her stories show up in blogs all over the world and even in an LA newspaper that apparently doesn't consider paying or notifying writers when they publish their work. The popularity is certainly not working against her though. Bonnie's name is now well known in this subject area, as Dr. Leveque's certainly is.

Perhaps she will always be known best as the writer who chronicled the last months of Author Jack Herer's life. Jack was loved by millions and he suffered a heart attack just over a year ago at the Hempstalk event in Portland, Oregon. The following months saw endless legal wrangling for control of Jack's fate, as he fought and struggled to regain control of his ability to talk and move. Bonnie's Salem-News.com article, "Jack Herer in Eulogy- Global Cannabis Warrior" is published in the brand new edition of Jack's famous book, 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes' which debuted in the mid 1980's.

The other "most famous name" in the marijuana culture is Ed Rosenthal. His new book, 'Big Buds Volume IV' will feature include one of Bonnie's articles about Jack Herer. She says each represents a real honor, and she is very happy above all else, that she had the opportunity to share the funny and meaningful side of Jack Herer, the 'Emperor of Hemp'.

Gain Real Skills

Our News Photographer Jerry Freeman has been helping out by shooting video from news scenes in the local area. His skill level has gone from zero to very proficient in just over a year. Jerry now has the ability to work for a TV station, keep shooting for us, or take any number or combination of positions if they are offered, because he has the understanding gained through personal training by me. This is the type of trade off that a relationship like this can offer, as mentioned at the top of the story. To clarify, I am not seeking field video photographers, but newsroom assistants.
