(PENDLETON, Ore.) - Police say an Illinois commercial truck driver died Saturday night when he collided with a guardrail, after losing control of his truck and trailers westbound on Interstate 84. It happened about twelve miles east of Pendleton on Cabbage Hill. A passenger in the truck received minor injuries. 47-year old David C. Clancy of Bourbonnais, Illinois, was operating a Freightliner truck pulling two box trailers loaded with general freight. Investigators say the combination of vehicles were coming downhill westbound Interstate 84 near milepost 222 in the left lane negotiating a right curve. As Mr. Clancy was braking, the rear trailer's brakes locked up causing the trailers and truck to flip onto its left side. The vehicles slid down the highway to the inside shoulder and collided with the end of a guardrail. David Clancy was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety restraint use information is unconfirmed at this time. A passenger in the truck was in the sleeper berth. 53-year old Kenneth L. Turner of Justice, Illinois, was trapped in the truck until removed by fire personnel. Turner received minor injuries and was transported by Pendleton Ambulance to St. Anthony's Hospital in Pendleton where he was treated and released. The vehicles are registered to Yellow Transportation Inc. Oregon State Police troopers from Pendleton and Hermiston are continuing the investigation. Speed and driver error are being investigated as contributing factors. OSP was assisted at the scene by ODOT and Confederated Tribes of Umatilla Police and Fire Departments. The right westbound lane was closed for several hours until the vehicles were removed.

It is a shame . their log books showed they logged 3.75 hrs per day each. And they were only with their family a short time each month. I guess the truckers of America really do sacrifice alot for us. May God Bless them and thier family
