(SALEM) - The Marion County Juvenile Department announces the grand opening of the Fresh Start Market and Coffee Shop located at 3030 Center Street N.E. All are invited to attend the opening ceremony on September 13th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

The Marion County Juvenile Department is committed to public safety through holding youth accountable, compensating crime victims, and developing positive youth skills and behavior change.

The Juvenile Department provides a continuum of services and consequences including: detention, probation supervision, shelter care, community service and work skill development.

The Fresh Start Market and Coffee Shop expands the training program for kids to include skills necessary for success in retail, and marketing.

Youth were involved in all aspects of the construction of the building, grow many of the fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers for sale, collect and split the firewood and kindling, manufacture the furniture and other items sold, and operate the coffee shop.

Through the program, the kids who participate learn valuable skills crucial to successful, positive community involvement, and most importantly; earn money that goes directly to pay crime victims.

Fresh Start Market and Coffee Shop is open for regular business Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
