Who Controls The POTUS?

(LOS ANGELES) - Don't blame the POTUS if one of our nukes is launched. The record is bleak.

In 1960, President Eisenhower ORDERED that no U2 spy plane be launched on or around May 1, 1960 (May Day in the Soviet Union) so as not to anger Premier Nikita Khrushchev and sabotage the upcoming Peace Talks to be held in Paris, France.

Richard Bissel, the number two at the CIA, who was the only person with the capability to launch any U2, gave the orders for Gary Powers to fly his U2 on that fateful day from Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Powers and his U2 crash landed in the Soviet union and the Paris Peace talks were averted. Was this the design of the government inside the government to keep the cold war hot?

Eventually, Powers was exchanged (horrors!) for Colonel Rudolph Abel, the highest ranking Russian KGB Agent ever captured in the USA, in February, 1962. While some would challenge hero status for a man who admittedly was ordered to train assassination teams for the CIA during the Vietnam War (none of which carried out a mission), no one can challenge the fact that as a triple volunteer (airborne, ranger, Special Forces), John served his country with bravery, honor and distinction. Like so many of the young men who went to Vietnam, he believed in his country and what he had been taught was the rightness of its mission in the world. But this is also the story of John's disillusionment and of his painful awakening, which came at the cost of wife, family and friends.
