Southern Oregon Over Warner Pacific, 2-0 Soccer

Salem-News.com Sports

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Southern Oregon spoiled Warner Pacific’s senior day by handing the Knights a 2-0 loss today at David Douglas High School.

Scoring chances were few and far between for both teams, but Southern Oregon made the most of the limited opportunities. SOU’s Ashton Griffen volleyed a 15 yard shot past Knight goalkeeper Nikita Rivera in the 23rd minute to give the Raiders an early lead. SOU would tack on a second goal in the 41st minute off the head of Kennedy Roteman, who made a long run down the left side and received a cross from Julie Zamzow.

The second period was played between the 18’s for the most part, with Rivera needing to make two saves to keep the Raiders off the board. Warner Pacific had eight shots for the game, but none on target as SOU keepers Jessica Kuehlwein and Devon Walker combined for the shutout.

Knight seniors Stephanie DeBoer, Desirae Hefely, and Karina Martinez played in their final game for Warner Pacific.

Warner Pacific finishes the season with a 2-12-2 overall record and 1-8 in CCC play. Southern Oregon improves to 12-4-2 and has qualified for the CCC post season tournament at 6-2-1. Playoff pairings will be announced later today.
