Salem Police Arrest Two in Murder Investigation (UPDATE)

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Police have arrested an adult male and a female juvenile in connection with a suspicious death in the Salem area. The female juvenile, identified as Joyce Yvonne Pequeno, was charged as an adult and arraigned on one count of Murder.

Even though she has been charged as an adult, Pequeno will remain in custody at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility. 18-year old Juan Carlos Silva is charged with Abuse of a Corpse in the second-degree and Tampering with Evidence.

Salem Police Lt. Steve Birr says officers received information on Sunday that a suspicious death had occurred at 4070 Earle Avenue NE.

A search warrant was served on the location Monday night, and with the assistance of the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, the residence was processed for evidence during the day on Tuesday.

Birr says information gathered from interviews led detectives Tuesday night to a remote location outside of Salem where the body had been dumped. That location was secured until the deceased could be recovered in daylight on Wednesday morning.

Wednesday afternoon the Salem Police Department's SWAT Team served a search warrant at 270 37th Avenue SE. Taken into custody was 18-year old Juan Carlos Silva who lived at the residence, and 15-year old female runaway Joyce Yvonne Pequeno.

An autopsy was conducted this morning by the state Medical Examiner and the victim, Salvador Ravalledo-Vivares, died from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to the Medical Examiner.

Juan Carlos Silva was lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility on charges of Abuse of a Corpse II and Tampering with Evidence.

Joyce Yvonne Pequeno is charged with Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Abuse of a Corpse II, and Tampering with Evidence.

At 1:30 PM today, the 15 year old was arraigned on one count of Murder. Even though she has been charged as an adult, Pequeno will remain in custody at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility.
